A word there is of plural number.
For to ease and tranquil slumber.
Any other word you take,
and add an "s" will plural make.
But if you add an "s" to this.
So strange the metamorphosis
Plural is now plural no more.
And sweet what bitter was before.

What is the word?

Answer

cares to caress

I put myself in danger,
And then I flee.
All the while you laugh at me.
If not for me, others may die,
Yet when you see me, I often cry.
I jump and run and roll and play,
But keeping them safe just makes my day.
What am I?

Answer

I'm a rodeo clown!

My life begins far above the ground,
Though below the ground life I may give.
When I come down to greet the ground,
A thunderous noise I will make.
A tasty treat to many I provide,
But only if they have the tools to get me.
The macaw is one,
The agouti is another.
Without the aid of the agouti,
My circle of life may never be completed,
And the forest I am part of would lose a valued member.
So watch out below when it's time for me to go,
Or an injury I will give you.

Hint

You can find me mixed with others of my kind in the supermarket, but you don't have to work nearly as hard to get to me since all the work has been done.

My thunder comes before my lightning.
My lightning comes before my rain.
My rain dries up all the land it touches.
What am I?

Answer

A volcano.

I have many feathers to help me fly.
I have a body and head, but I'm not alive.
It is your strength which determines how far I go.
You can hold me in your hand, but I'm never thrown.

What am I?

Answer

An arrow

Some men struggle against me, others cheer my victory.
My allies' work is often covert.
My children run rampant.
Spreading my influence over mountains and valleys.
My foes are crushed without prejudice.
Belenus can be a friend or foe.
Chac can have disastrous effects on my travels.

Hint

I fought the lawn and the lawn won.

It is not mortal nor yet immortal; rather, it has a nature so mixed
that its life is neither in man's estate nor in a god's, but its substance
ever grows fresh and then dies again; it may not be seen by the eye,
yet it is known of all.

Answer

Dream
