| Phoenix Winterborn was on cloud nine. Yeah, he may not have come out on top in the Battle Royale Sunday night at Krystmas Kaos, but he didn't walk away empty-handed, either. He came off a hard-fought match with Leaky Format to become the new GWE Evolution Champion, so needless to say...someone was in a good mood. We join our hero backstage with his fiancee Karime Atora, who gave the needed assist Sunday, taking care of Leaky's "Hype Man" Chilly. The happy couple are on Phoenix's couch, with the Evolution title laying bundled up on the small table next to the couch. Phoenix is laid out, and Karime is resting on top of him. Phoenix Winterborn:
Do you know how good this feels? Karime Atora:
I assume you're talking about me, birdie... Phoenix Winterborn:
Of course you, hun. (he kisses her forehead) And finally having a singles title again. I couldn't have done it without you. I owe you babe. Karime Atora:
You bet you do. (chuckling) Just hold onto that belt, ok? Phoenix Winterborn:
I don't see that being a problem. So, you ready for the big day? Karime Atora:
If it means I get to spend the rest of my life with you, then yes. She leans up and kisses him as the alarm on Phoenix's Samsung Glyde goes off. He makes a face before breaking the kiss and looking at it. It was the alarm saying it was time for him to get ready for his promo for Chaos Theory. Karime Atora:
Time for you to show why you're the champ, hun. (she sits up, letting him stand up and grab his belt) Knock 'em dead. I'll be right here waiting when you get back. She smiles up at him, as he kisses her one more time before heading off to shoot his first promo... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We re-join Phoenix Winterborn on his way towards the interview area with Ernie Schivone. He is wearing his white and red ECKO zipper hoodie unzipped and with the hood down and a dark red t-shirt under with WINTERBORN scrawled on the front of it, the GWE Championship over his left shoulder, a pair of black JNCO jeans with PHOENIX stitched into the left leg, and his DC Commander shoes. He walks up to Ernie and shakes his hand while the camera crew gets set up. Ernie Schivone:
Congratulations on the win Sunday, Phoenix. I expect more out of you in the months to come. Phoenix Winterborn:
Oh, come now Ernie. This is only the beginning, trust me. The camera crew signals that they're ready as Phoenix and Ernie get into position. The red light flickers to life as the camera comes on, showing the Domain fans a shot of Ernie. Ernie Schivone:
Good evening ladies and gentlemen. Ernie Schivone here, and I am joined at this time by the new GWE Evolution Champion, Phoenix Winterborn! The crowd erupts in cheers as the camera zooms out to bring Phoenix into frame. He is smiling as he adjusts the GWE Championship on his shoulder. Ernie Schivone:
First things first, Phoenix. A hearty congratulations on the win Sunday night at Krystmas Kaos against who many people would consider an icon here in the Domain...Leaky Format. What was going through your mind during that match? "The American Tradition" Phoenix Winterborn:
Thanks for the congrats, Ernie. You know, it was a funny thing. The match was pretty back and forth until Leaky threw that powder or whatever it was in my eyes. For a few moments, I thought I was going to lose because of that bullshit, but I was able to get my wits about me, and pick up the win. I tell ya what Ernie. It's been a few years since I held my own singles title, and I am on top of the world right now. Nothing can get me off of this feeling right now. Ernie Schivone:
Well Phoenix, as the new GWE Champion, you are going to be in action later on this evening against Matlock and Kabuki Kamikaze. From what you saw of these two men on Sunday in their respective matches, do you think either one of these men pose a real challenge? "The American Tradition" Phoenix Winterborn:
Ernie, anyone can pose a challenge at any time, these two men included. Kabuki is one crazy mother. I was watching how he flew around the ring on Sunday, and this guy is a literal madman. He can hit you from anywhere at any time. Period. But the thing with that is...I can too. Kabuki, you may be able to run around hitting high spots all day long, but it's going to take more than just that to defeat the American Tradition. Simply put, it's going to take more than you know how to handle to go...(doing his best Rock impression) One! On! One..With the Great One! I am the king of the Global Wrestling Empire. You're stepping into my kingdom, sunshine. And around these parts here? It's my backyard. Chaos Theory is where I make greatness happen. Now now, before you get started, don't mistake this for being cocky. It's hard to be cocky when you're telling the truth, and the truth of the matter is that I am here for a reason. And that is to rule over the GWE. The very thing you seek is right here. (he hoists the belt up on his shoulder again) I tell you what, and I will put this out my other opponent as well. If either one of you can pin my shoulders to the mat, I will give you a shot at the GWE Championship at 2009 Wayz to Die, the next pay-per-view. And you can even pick the stipulation for the match. Because I promise you this much. Even if one of you happens to get lucky against me tonight, there is no way you will make it two in a row against the Firebird. Bring your might, bring your cunning, hell bring the Chinese Samauri, or the Japanese ninjas. Hell, bring in the Japanese Buzzsaw. I'll take all of you on and still come out the way I came in. What about Matlock, Ernie? Here you have a man who lost to Menacide on Sunday. Some braindead idiot in a mask beat this guy. Frankly, he doesn't deserve my time unless he actually says something that catches my attention, which...to be honest with you, I don't see that happening. Ernie, some people say that with championship gold comes cockiness. Do you think I'm cocky? Ernie Schivone:
Well, now that you mention it, you do seem a bit full of yourself since defeating Leaky on Sunday. "The American Tradition" Phoenix Winterborn:
Ernie, I think you're mistaking cockiness with pure confidence. My first match in almost two months here in the Domain, and I become a champion. Who wouldn't be confident in their abilities right now? And even more so after beating an icon of the Domain for the belt he said he would never lose. C'mon, Ern, you know me better than that by now. Matlock, Kabuki...listen close and listen good. Phoenix Winterborn is coming to make like Gettysburg on you two tonight. I am coming into that ring tonight with the strength of tens of thousands of men, and you two unlucky bastards are going to make like the south and fall before the Union...again. Tonight, gents, is a turning point in my career here in the Domain. I know that there are haters out there who will say that my decisive victory on Sunday was a fluke. Those people are saying that I can't do it again. They're saying that I won't remain champion for long. Well, tonight is the first step in proving them all wrong. Tonight is the first step in cementing myself within the annals and the history books of this company. Tonight, Phoenix Winterborn continues to fly high. Kabuki, Matlock...I am The American Tradition. I am going to be the measuring stick within the GWE and eventually, all of the Domain. Get ready for your loss tonight It's going to come with the quickness before you even know what hit you, and before you can get the license plate of the Mack truck that just ran you two down, but hey. I'll help you out with that so you can go cry to whoever you want. The plate will read P H N X. I'm sure you can guess what that is short for. I feel bad for you two, I really do. Because once you step into that ring with me later on tonight, all hell is going to break loose, and your championship dreams, art least for now anyways, will be dashed, and you two will probably fall into some sort of emo-type depression where you'll start listening to My Chemical Romance and Hawthorne Heights and shit like that. You'll probably start painting your fingernails black, and writing poetry. And eventually, when you've convinced yourselves that the world is nothing more than a bleak, desolate wasteland fill with despair and nothingness...you two will end up slitting each other's wrists in an attempt to ease the pain, but end up knocking each other off in the process. And I will be praising the Goddess at that point, because we just freed up some room on the Domain roster for some actual talent. Get set boys. Here's some help. Phoenix pulls out a vial of black nail polish, holding it up for the camera, smiling as the scene fades to the upcoming match on Chaos Theory as the camera shuts off. Phoenix and Ernie look at each other, shaking hands again as Phoenix makes his way back to his locker room, when he comes face-to-face with Leaky Format, who is also scheduled to be in action. Phoenix simply adjusts the belt on his shoulder, and pats it a few times. "The American Tradition" Phoenix Winterborn:
(pausing for a moment, looking around before looking directly into Leaky's eyes) I told you. Phoenix smiles and makes his way past Leaky as he glares at the back of Phoenix's head as the scene fades off.... |
