figured this would end up starting a new thread within a thread, so i just brought this one out.
-why was Jesus in hell
#28) First of all, there is the issue of what is the "Universal *(agreed upon) Christian Doctrine". As we all are aware, the reason there are so many denominations is that there are multiple specific things that are emphasized by each denomination that sets it apart from all others. But interestingly many of the others might actually agree with some of those specifics. There is always some overlap, with the overlaps varying between denomination.

#29) Just one more thing. Being an SDA does not mean one is not a Christian. The terms are not mutually exclusive.
I also find it amusing that you fancy yourself a spokesman for "Universal Christianity".

The "C"hurch is a group of people called out both Jews and gentiles to form the "called out assembly" making up the "Body of Christ, " as declared by the NT writtings.
Each denomination will vary from doctrine to doctrine in many of the secondary issues within the Christian Faith. But concerning the Primary Doctrional Issues of the Christian faith, ALL Groups are in agreement.
The primary Issues are as follows:  Universal Church Doctrines:
Deity of Christ
Jesus is Messiah *(Christ) the Only Son of the Living God.
Christ death on the cross for sin is sufficient to take away all sin.
Virgin Birth of Christ by Mary, conceived of the Holy Spirit.
The bodily resurrection of Christ, on the third day.
The second coming of Christ
There is 1 God and revealed Himself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
God *(Creator) Created all things *(creation)
Christ suffered under Pontius Pilot, and crucified.
Christ ascension into Heaven, and sat down at the right hand of the Father,
The bodily resurrection of all, and Christ is Judge of all
There is only 1 Church, *(not specific denomination) made of both Jews and Gentile
There is eternal Life.
There is 1 faith
There is 1 Lord
There is 1 baptism
Salvation is by grace, through faith, in Jesus Christ alone, and not of works.

These are common primary Christian doctrines that from the RCC ?SDA- Baptist ?Methodist- Calvary Chapel- ‘the churches?of Christ ?Presbyterian –Anglican church will all agree on. *or at least has in the past. Modern liberal teachings deny many fundamental beliefs, that in turn undermine the rest of the biblical teachings, due to the Secular Humanist influence in today’s modern Church. We’ve *(all in the Church have seen apostasy dig deeper, and deeper, but the basic fundamentals of the faith are still maintained, and confirmed though secular history.  There is just the ignoring of it.)

Desi,

That's a very good list of common beliefs.

Did use compile it yourself or did you copy it from another source?

A basic source could be found in the simple creeds of Christendom such as the Apostels Creed:

I believe in God the Father Almighty, [Isaiah 44:6; 45:5]
and in Jesus Christ [Luke 2:11; John 20:28],
His only Son [John 3:16, Proverbs 30:4]
Our Lord, [John 20:28, Rom 5:1]
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, [Luke 1:35]
born of the Virgin Mary, [Luke 1:27]
suffered under Pontius Pilate, Luke [23:23-25]
was crucified, [John 19:20; Acts 4:10; all 4 Gospels]
died, [1 Corinthians 15:3]
and was buried. [1 Corinthians 15:4]
He descended into Hell [1Peter 3:18-19];
the third day He rose again from the dead; [1 Corinthians 15:4]
He ascended into Heaven, [Luke 24:51, Acts 1:11]
and sits at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; [Hebrews 1:3]
from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. [2 Timothy 4:1; John 5:22]
I believe in the Holy Spirit, [John 15:26; 16:7-8, 13-14; Acts 5:3-4, 13:2 ]
the Church universal, [Galatians 3:26-29]
the communion of saints, [Revelation 19:14; Hebrews 10:25]
the forgiveness of sins, [Luke 7:48]
the resurrection of the body [1 Thessalonians 4:16; John 6:39]
and life everlasting. [John 10:28; 17:2-3]

and the others...

Deity of Christ [john 1:1-3, 14, titus 2:13]
Jesus is Messiah *(Christ) the Only Son of the Living God. [mt 16:16-17]
Christ death on the cross for sin is sufficient to take away all sin.[2john 2:2, col 2:13]
There is 1 God and revealed Himself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. [titus 2:13, acts5 :3-4, 1pet 1:2]
God *(Creator) Created all things *(creation) [john 1:3, acts 17:24]
There is 1 faith [eph 4:5]
There is 1 Lord [eph 4:5]
There is 1 baptism [eph 4:5, 1corth 12:13]
Salvation is by grace, through faith, in Jesus Christ alone, and not of works. [acts:4:12, eph 2:8-9]

I do not know if the SDA reflects or reconizes such a source of information, *(Christian creeds) but the refences as given are found in the bible. These are not "common beliefs" but are the essentials of the Christian Faith. There are a slew of secondary doctrines that are not essential but rather the Christian community may debate amongst itself without division, *(1corth 11:18-20) but unforntually has not always been the case.

The essentials are to be "agreed on" to call oneself a "Christian." If any of the essentials are denied then one have created another Jesus. [2corth 11:4] Call it "exclusive" but one cannot deny the person, and nature and Work of the focus of the entirity of the bible, namely Jesus Christ, and say "im a Christian." *(truthfully)

Actually, Desi, SDA beliefs are compatible with the list.

'compatable' or in 'agreement'? there is a diffeance. the thing that raises my 'eyebrow' is the "Christian beliefs," and "SDA beliefs" as if there is a seperation. There was a line in there that stated:  "One faith" [eph 4:5] but im sure in todays world there are many beliefs.

It is funny that Adventists originally snubbed all the old creeds and held to the "Bible as their only creed." Eventually it became necessary to have some official doctrines defined succinctly so that we could articulate what we believed to others, especially those entering the church. Thus the Fundamental Beliefs were born!
