What is easter?

Three blondes died and are at the pearly gates of heaven. St. Peter tells them that they can enter the gates if they can answer one Simple question.

St. Peter asks the first blonde, "What is Easter?" The blonde replies, "Oh, that's easy! It's the holiday in November when everyone gets together, eats turkey, and are thankful..."

"Wrong!" replies St. Peter, and proceeds to ask the second blonde the same question, "What is Easter?" The second blonde replies, "Easter is the holiday in December when we put up a nice tree, exchange presents, and celebrate the birth of Jesus."

St. Peter looks at the second blonde, shakes his head in disgust, tells her she's wrong, and then peers over his glasses at the third blonde and asks, "What is Easter?"

The third blonde smiles confidently and looks St. Peter in the eyes; "I know what Easter is." "Oh?" says St. Peter, incredulously.

"Easter is the Christian holiday that coincides with the Jewish celebration of Passover. Jesus and his disciples were eating at the Last Supper and Jesus was later deceived and turned over to the Romans by one of his disciples.

The Romans took him to be crucified and he was stabbed in the side, made to wear a crown of thorns, and was hung on a cross with nails through his hands. He was buried in a nearby cave which was sealed off by a large boulder."

St. Peter smiles broadly with delight. The third blonde continues, "Every year the boulder is moved aside so that Jesus can come out ... and, if he sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter."

Hi Popeye,
Without wanting to sound pious or anything like that...... as one who considers Jesus Lord,  I must say I do not find that a "clean laugh."  At least, not 'clean' if one is  a Christian. If you're not, I guess you wouldn't  understand.   If you are, I think you ought to.  To find humor in the suffering, death  and resurrection of Jesus and reduce it to "groundhog day " seems offensive to me.  I am liberal in my thinking, yet as a blood-washed believer in Jesus, I feel this type of 'humor' is over the top and not wise. Perhaps even blasphemous.

Hi All
I repent of the word "perhaps" and  I say,.. to reduce Jesus's salvation of us,  and   to place it on a level with groundhog day or to find humor that,...is blasphemy.

It has nothing to do with courtesy, Popeye.  It has everything to do with understanding what is Holy.  Jesus is Holy. I have not judged you, but if you find that supposed 'joke' funny, He Who is HOLY  might just have something  to personally say to you  say about it.   Remember John, (the one who laid his head on Jesus breast and walked with Him for 3 years) saw Him in Rev 1 and "fell at His feet as a dead man".   When You see Jesus with your own eyes, that "blond joke" will be far removed from funny!
Just a word of caution there bro.

Wow, Popeye,

Why all the shouting?

The first thing a commedian needs to learn is how to face the innevitable time when they tell a joke that is not perceived as funny by their intended audience.

So, Popeye, as you must know, this is a Christian site. An SDA Christian site, where we believe that the Person of Jesus Christ is none other than Lord God Almighty, the Creator of all things, including you and I.

Your response to Love-n-Grace

why do you tell a perfect stranger they are going to hell?

didnt jesus say not to judge?

shall we condemn each other over a stupid blonde joke?

where is your courtesy?

try john 13 35 is just a bit over-reactive. To the onlooker, several things are immediately apparent: In the first place, no-one has said anyone is going to hell. Secondly, no-one has in any way judged any person: it is the propriety of the supposed humor presented that has been judged and found wanting. In the third place, that was not so much a 'stupid blonde joke', as it was a demeaning of  the sacrifice of our Lord and Savior and Creator, Jesus Christ. In the fourth place, no-one besides yourself has exhibited discourtesy.

You mention John 13: 5, which says, "All people will know that you are my followers if you love eachother". While this is actually true, Popeye, surely you realize that loving eachother is redundant, if we first of all don't even love our Lord enough to reverence the Sacrifice He made.

There would be something seriously amiss in a Christian forum if someone did not strenuously object to 'jokes' of such a nature, given the horrible eternal consequences of failing to comprehend what it means that He is Holy.

Just my thoughts,

Mae

hmm message eight must have been very interesting....oh well, maybe ai will get to read more along this difficult line of dealing with the blending of the common and the sacred, a very obvious issue... as Nadab and Abihu found out.

I will mention, that the struggle that is involved in dealing with those common celebrations based on foolishness and those memorials of the sacrifice of the Lord of Glory, when joined, DO bring attention to the realities that humanity has lots of struggle in this life seeking to separate knowledge that is temporal, (of a certain age, or "secular") and that knowledge that leads to eternal life.

Many children are hard pressed to distinguish between the two.

One of the most interesting things about "jokes" is that they point to a certain aspect of some truth (or foolishness), not unlike parables.

This sort of humor is one that is prevalent because many times words are shared that are not understood...

Like the story of the pastor's son officiating at a pet funeral, as the critter was interred with these words:  (repeating with some of what he perceived his papa has said)

"Glory be to the Father and to the Son and (in)to the hole he goes!"

The reason this sort of humor is frowned upon, is that when we have a partial understanding of God and we seek to add to or fill in aspects based on our partial knowledge, those who believe they have a clearer knowledge of that God, who Nehemiah shared "Is Great and Terrible above any," see that this variety of expressions can be construed to be (as Paul stated) "corrupting the Word of God" as he expressed that many do!

Now shouldn't those who seek to promulgate a clear understanding of soul/life saving truths, frown upon those that appeal to that awareness a "knowledge passes away." (citing the first epistle to the Corinthians chapter thirteen verse eight)?

We  have only a partial ability to understand God, but what we know is that He was betrayed into the hand of sinners, and was crucified and rose again the third day. May we not be found betraying Him into the phrase of fruitlessness or found lessening the force of truths that have an enduring nature.

As we deal in corrupting expressions, our ability to understand the deep truths that God would have grasp is lessened.  Our work is to seek to strive with all the energies that God has given us to see Jesus example and share His words and follow both that example and retain those words of life.

Humor does happen, and we deal with it, but repeating it (as this typist did in the green phrase attributed to a pastor's son) may cause the importance of the necessary truths for the salvation of souls to be lost sight of!

So...if we would be found doing well, we could take Jesus words and when we find ourselves in company of workers under the control of the enemies of God and Christ, to speak little or nothing.

"Hereafter I will not talk much with you; for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me."

from John fourteen verse thirty

Yet, here is this typist, aware that these sorts of corruptions of important soul-saving truths, and actually CONTRIBUTING TO to those words which  tend to lessen the importance of knowing and obeying the Only True God.

sorry...
*yos*

Be Kind...  What did he say?

Eph 5:4 Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving.
