The Train of HIS robe fill the Temple (PART 2)
Now that the back ground is set in PART ONE , let explore what this is talking about. His train fill his temple just what do you imagine when you hear that ;. In the presence of holiness, in the presence of things we cannot understand, we are like Isaiah and Simon Peter—painfully conscious of how uncomfortable it is to be caught in the gaze of God. But what he saw was infinitely worse than wrinkled or blemished clothing. He saw the ugly stains on his own soul. How could such a soiled, shameful creature of dust like himself survive for more than a heartbeat in the presence of such awesome purity? The prophet cried out in his despair, believing death to be near. "Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The LORD of hosts." (v. 5) In Hebrew, you would have heard the piercing cry, "Oohh-eeee!" "Woe!" Just that quickly, he saw himself as "undone." Other translations use the words lost, beaten, or ruined We are mortified and embarrassed. Standing on holy ground, with the sweet incense of holiness wafting around us, we feel as if we have just trooped across someone’s expensive oriental carpet with filthy barnyard boots. We wish the floor would just swallow us up . If that doesn’t happen we simply hope that God will go someplace else. His brightness is too intense for us. We are ashamed all of a sudden. I wonder if we will fall on our face . Do you remember the song.. in His power and majesty and blazing holiness ( Listen to the good news of Ezekiel 43:1?: Then he led me to the gate, the gate facing east. And behold, the glory of the God of Israel was coming from the east. And the sound of his coming was like the sound of many waters, and the earth shone with his glory. And the vision I saw was just like the vision that I had seen when he came to destroy the city, and just like the vision that I had seen by the Chebar canal. And I fell on my face. As the glory of the Lord entered the temple by the gate facing east, the Spirit lifted me up and brought me into the inner court; and behold, the glory of the Lord filled the temple) The presence of the Lord God is awesome, mighty and fearsome at the same time. Things happen in the presence of God. Corporate presence of God transformed the tribes of Israel as they walked through the wilderness, people of Israel under the leadership of Solomon and the early church in the days of the Apostles. Presence of God in the life of individuals is equally awesome and transforms people. When Isaiah came into the presence of most holy God in the temple as he witnessed the train of His robe fill the temple, he realized his shortcomings and experienced a personal revival. My guilt is gone and my sin has been forgiven And I cry holy, holy is the Lord And I cry holy, holy is the Lord And the temple is filled with the glory of God And the whole earth is filled with the glory of God He calls to me "Whom shall I send?" And I answer Him "I will go for You" And I cry holy, holy is the Lord And I cry holy, holy is the Lord Only now does the Lord speak. It’s almost as if Isaiah wasn’t yet ready to hear his voice. But now, having been cleansed from his sins, he hears the word of the holy God. Isaiah says, “And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us??Then I said, ‘Here am I! Send me.’?BR>Isaiah’s response is a perfect example of the appropriate response of one who has experienced the grace of God: “here am I ?send me!?BR>Many have pictured Isaiah as boldly announcing his willingness to go. As if he is special, or God should be glad to have him. But I do not think that is how we should read the text. I think it should be more desperate than that: “I’ll go! I’ll do it. I’ll do whatever is needed of me!? Isaiah knew that day in God’s presence was better than a thousand elsewhere. Hence we get the song better if one day in your court or house then any where else. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VdUiKagWjU Author is Rita 2008 ©All Rights Reserved May Be copied and reposted with all Credits Intact To be continued |
