The Tree Has a Message for Us

by Anne H. Spencer, Ph.D.
Hypnosis Instructor and Founder of Infinity Institute International, Inc

Imagine the sun on your face, and you're feeling wonderfully warm. Your back is against a tree. You reach out to touch the branches and the leaves brush against your face. It invites you to answer the question: "Are you ready to know me?"

The tree is strong and giving. It is supporting you and you feel its power. The strength is from all time and to all people. It is for those who are willing to understand the message of time, to feel, to become acquainted with its power and to learn its message.

The message is simple - the tree teaches unconditional love . . . not as in Pantheism, but as in the nature of creation. The tree is a representation of the God/Goddess that is within all. It is to be recognized as our teacher as we learn how to bow, how to bend, how to forgive, how to give shelter, how to take and to receive.

The tree bows each day before the Creative Force and sings its benediction to the One on High as the breeze blows through its branches. It does this all day, every day! As the sun's first rays bounce off a leaf, the tree begins its praise of the new day. It bends to the will of a higher power with grace and ease and finds that it grows straight and tall in the process . . . branches bending and flowing as though they were a great conductor in the symphony of the planet.

In the bending it learns how to reach the earth and the sky in the same movement. Sometimes the dance is wild; sometimes it is joyful, sometimes slow and calm. In all cases, it is just right for the conditions of its environment. Because the tree bends willingly, it does not break! It is only when the tree resists the winds of change that it breaks. As you bow to the tree, it is a reminder of what the tree has to teach.

The tree forgives. It lets go freely and gladly of anything that is not of its nature. For its nature is to provide the planet with a tree, nothing more . . . nothing less . . . just to be itself among the other "selves."

It shares all that it has: its branches, its leaves, its roots that run deep into the earth. It has a tap root that seems to go straight down into forever. It is as though it is reaching for its strength and wisdom out of the bowels of Mother Earth. That strength is then transmitted through the root up into the tree, providing life itself. Every day, the tree has a Kundalini rising, naturally and easily . . . it is in total harmony. It is being a tree. Because of the energy that is within the tree, it willingly takes from humans any energy that they no longer want and transforms it into a pattern that it can use for its growth.

It calls to you to come and sit with your back against it. Let go, forgive all that is not of you and take what the tree has to offer. The tree gives its harmony and peace to one who asks. As you stand next to the tree, you can feel the power, the strength of its root system, pulsating through the soles of your feet. You can feel the filling of your heart with the power and splendor of the tree energy. It is exciting to realize the love that is pouring from the tree directly into your body.

The experience is heady, yet filled with wonder. The tree showers its blessings freely without regard to who or what. It knows no danger, no separation from its source. It considers all who come to it as part of that source. Ours and theirs are not part of the tree's vocabulary. The tree speaks only in terms of we. We are all one, sharing, caring, bending, forgiving, taking, receiving, and loving.

The city dweller and the one who lives close to the land can both learn the great message that the tree offers. Bow each day to the tree as it returns the benediction of unconditional love and then carries that message as you walk your path in the forest of your choice.
