Discover How This Reality TV Series

Actor's Chronic Back Pain Was Cured

By Fiji Natives in September of

2001, And How You Will Feel Total

    Relief From These Techniques Too.

Can I have a minute of your time? Allow me to introduce myself: My name is Markham Anderson. In life I have been a U.S. Marine (Force Reconnaissance 0315), a NAVY S.E.A.L. Instructor, a Houston Police Officer, a bounty hunter, a camera operator, a title holding Olympic lifter, a licensed private detective, and these days a music agent. I have also been for a sizeable part of my life completely crippled by chronic back pain.

So what's my story? Well, I am truly a "jack-of-all-trades!" I was also an an actor, or cast member, (as producers called us), on a reality television series called "Under One Roof" which aired in the Summer of '02 here in the states on the UPN Network. The show was basically like CBS' "Survivor" but with a family theme. I had a blast in Fiji, until halfway through taping, when my worst fears came true: years of Olympic lifting had caught up with me big time, as my former back surgery from June of 1994 began to fail. (Failed back syndrome)

Picture yourself in my position,  I was hundreds of nautical miles away from hospitals and conventional medicine, my back had completely seized,  AND,  I was in excruciating pain! - I was devastated - there was no way that I could get to my feet, never mind finish the TV series that I had already put so much effort into -

I resigned myself to going home on a stretcher until...

I met a little Fijian guy by the name of Phillip whose small stature and mild manner gave little clue to the incredible feat he was about to perform.  Moments later our TV crew-assigned Green Beret medic watched stunned as Phillip and his assistant stretched and worked on my pain-racked 300 lb. torso with techniques that were unknown to these Western eyes. I was literally their "Stretch Armstrong", BUT, something remarkable happened on that day.  Within minutes I was walking again, and within hours my pain had totally disappeared!

Since that eye-opening thirty days, I have become known around Texas as "Back Man!" Of course, in my own gym its usually "Aw, geez, here comes back man." That's okay. I take it as a compliment. I have saved literally hundreds of people from years of soul destroying back pain and the depression forming darkness that this brings.  I have shown people how to overcome seemingly insurmountable mountains of back pain with really simple but totally logical techniques.  Furthermore,  I have also prevented others doing serious damage to themselves by working out incorrectly.  I have even been asked to give seminars to athletes, personal trainers, and football coaches on preventive techniques, and, more regularly, what to do when the damage has been done.

I have also appeared on NBC Television in a piece on alternative cures for back pain. I do this because I want to help people with chronic back and leg pain...

This is a promotion, I know nothing more about it than what appears on the page link, however, could be worth while .......  RM

Your Back Pain May Not be in Your Back

Low back pain is a common reason why Americans see the doctor. Yet causes of back pain remain elusive, and more often than not, physicians can't clearly define the underlying reason. X-rays come back normal, MRIs come back normal, but still the pain persists. One common source of the problem, Daily Health News consulting medical editor Andrew L. Rubman, ND, tells me, is actually the misalignment of the hip bones.

THE BACKBONE'S CONNECTED TO THE HIP BONE

One part of the body can profoundly affect another, says Dr. Rubman. In more than 25 years of clinical practice, it has been his experience that hip misalignment has caused or contributed to 75% of chronic back problems. The technical terms for the resulting spinal misalignments are hypo-lordosis and hypo-kyphosis.

The spine has a natural front to back curve (not side to side curve) explains Dr. Rubman. When this is disturbed for some reason -- for instance, due to pregnancy and childbirth, an automobile collision or sports injury -- the loss of curvature (or straightening of the spine) can throw the body's whole structure out of whack. A flattening of the thoracic spine, hypo-kyphosis, due to a misalignment of the pelvis and the sacrum (which are hip bones), can cause a flattening of the lumbar curve, or hypo-lordosis, resulting in the compression of vertebral disks in the lower back. This can, in turn, compress nerves exiting from the spine, and muscles respond by trying to "lock down" to compensate, notes Dr. Rubman. The result is back pain -- both chronic and in spasm.

COPING WITH BACK PAIN

Proper diagnosis and treatment is required to restore the natural alignment of the hip bones and spine. Unfortunately, conventional physicians are often quick to turn to drugs and surgery to remedy the problems... despite the fact that surgery has not been demonstrated to ease pain any better than less invasive techniques in many cases. To cure your aching back and get your hip bones and spine back into proper alignment, Dr. Rubman recommends that, after checking with your physician regarding safety, you try yoga, exercise and/or acupuncture, preferably with chiropractic or naturopathic oversight. Your traditional (DC or ND) physician may then prescribe specific manipulative, nutritional, dietary or physiotherapy interventions appropriate for your particular case.

As we've talked about many times in Daily Health News, it's always safer to first try the non-pharmaceutical and non-surgical options in treating assorted medical conditions. Lower back pain is no different. Of course, first check with your doctor to rule out any hidden medical condition.

Be well, Carole Jackson, Bottom Line's Daily Health News
