Spam Help -
If you get anywhere near the amount of spam I used to here are a few good Links which may help reduce how much you receive & hopefully help to discourage those who continue to make a nuisance of themselves.  RM

Firstly, place the IP address of the sender in the search box here:   http://www.arin.net/index.html

Secondly, Find the abuse@_____.com address in the list that pops up (sometimes if the sender is non U.S. you may have to go to a related site & retry the IP address).

Thirdly, send the whole message (showing headers, and in plain text) to the "abuse" address. With your comments/reasons  about what you're submitting.

Fourthly, for the most bothersome or at the same time, send a copy to, or visit  http://vww.spamcop.com/report.htm

This site does an extensive search to locate the service provider for the IP address of the user (sender). Then you can notify the service provider yourself of spam or service abuse.     http://swhois.net.

I also suggest exploring the following links to learn more about Spam and how to register a complaint about e-mail abuse:

http://spam.abuse.net/     http://www.abuse.net      http://www.spamcon.org/

http://spamcop.net      http://www.cauce.org/

To report an abusive Hotmail user, please send an e-mail message to [email protected]

The non-profit Internet Education Foundation published on its Web site,  video tutorials and tips for Internet users to keep spyware off computers and detect any spyware already installed. It also directs visitors to dozens of free and commercial tools to easily remove spyware     www.getnetwise.org

I'm on an email list for information about blocking spam & received this list a few days ago, for any one that has a ton of it coming in some of the links here may provide you with what you need to prevent further abuse of your addy.   (I've not checked them all, but saw some good resources).

OTTAWA, May 17, 2005 -- The Government of Canada's Task Force on Spam today presented its final report entitled, Stopping Spam: Creating a Stronger, Safer Internet, to the Honourable David L. Emerson, Minister of Industry.

The report calls for new, targeted legislation, as well as more rigorous enforcement, which would strengthen the legal and regulatory weapons that Canada could use in the global battle against spam. It also supports the creation of a focal point within government for coordinating the actions taken to address the spam issue and other related problems like spyware.

Minister Emerson congratulated the members of the Task Force on Spam for their work over the last year.

"We need to rid the Internet of the scourge of spam if Canada is going to be able to reap the full benefit of a strong e-economy," said Minister Emerson. "These recommendations merit strong consideration. I want to thank the Task Force members for their time and effort."

Industry Canada established the Task Force on Spam one year ago to oversee the implementation of the government's Anti-Spam Action Plan and to consider further action. The Task Force brought together leading representatives of ISPs, e-marketers, government and consumers. Working group participation included over 60 stakeholder groups, which provided input on such key areas as legislation and enforcement, international collaboration, and public education and awareness.

Under the leadership of the Task Force, these groups have already implemented practical measures aimed at reducing spam in Canada. Anti-spam "best practices" for network management and for commercial e-mail marketing are now in place. The Task Force also launched the Stop Spam Here Internet-based communications campaign to inform users of steps that they can take to limit and control the volume of spam they receive.

A detailed backgrounder on the final report is attached. For more information on the Task Force on Spam, including the report, please visit:
