This is copied directly from the October /05 HerbalGram.  A number of times over the past few years I've noted someone asking for information about safe herbs to use and this is the first I've seen that really seems to give a good summary.  R.M

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Q:
Subject:  Pregnancy Tonic Tea?
So, what's the scoop with this product? What does it do to make for an easy delivery? How safe is it? My partner and I are expecting twin girls soon (she is today beginning week 37...and, according to her doctor, we are "good to go for a vaginal delivery").  She and the girls are in very good health. We are interested in this product and would like any information you can offer.
In advance, thanks. John

A:
Dear John,

Red Raspberry is used to help prevent complications and make delivery easier.
Black Cohosh is a sedative & reduces high blood pressure.
Blue Cohosh is an antispasmodic & induces labor.
Beth Root is an aid to lessen pain and difficulty during childbirth.
Squaw Vine is also an aid during childbirth.
Cramp Bark is a nerve sedative & relieves uterine muscle tension.
Anise helps increase milk production and is also an antispasmodic.
Spikenard makes childbirth less painful and faster.
Nettle was used by Native Americans as an aid in pregnancy, childbirth, and nursing.
Dill stimulates milk production in nursing mothers.
Borage increases milk supply in nursing mothers.
Lobelia is an aid in childbirth.

As you can see the herbs are all beneficial for the pregnant and nursing mother and, with twins, she'll need all the help she can get in producing enough milk for the children! For more information on  Safe and Useful Herbs for Use in Pregnancy

General Pregnancy / Safe and Useful Herbs for Use in Pregnancy Information

The following herbs are deemed safe for use in pregnancy, but expectant mothers should always check with their doctors before using any herb or supplement.

The FDA advises pregnant women refrain from using any herbal products before checking with their healthcare provider. Herbs and supplements are not government tested before hitting the shelves, and they can vary drastically in strength and quality from batch to batch and brand to brand. Herbs can also contain ingredients that could harm the mother and the growing fetus. Miscarriage, premature birth, uterine contractions, fetal injury and/or complication in the mother could result. Thus, it is essential for pregnant women to get approval of any herb, vitamin or supplement use from her physician.

In accordance with FDA regulation, we do not make any therapeutic claims for any Dietary Supplements in accordance with the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act.

Beneficial Dietary Supplements
