New PBS program says Bible isn't true, stories made up

Your tax dollars helped fund "The Bible's Buried Secrets"

Take Action!

Sign the petition urging Congress to stop using tax dollars to fund PBS. Let PBS operate like every other non-commercial network, raising its own money from its viewers instead of using tax money.

Sign the Petition Now!

Thank you for caring enough to get involved. If you feel our efforts are worthy of support, would you consider making a small tax-deductible contribution to help us continue?

July 22, 2008

Dear Steve ,

The Public Broadcasting System (PBS), probably the most liberal network in America, will present a program this fall that says the Old Testament is a bunch of made-up stories that never happened. "The Bible's Buried Secrets" says the Bible is not true. It is scheduled to air on November 18.

Producer Paula Apsell said: "...It's (The Bible's Buried Secrets) designed for intelligent people who are willing to change their mind. …it will give intelligent people who want to read the Bible in a modern way a chance. If we insist on reading the Bible literally, in 25 years, nobody will read it any longer."

Among highlights of "The Bible's Buried Secrets":

?The Old Testament was written in the sixth century BC and hundreds of authors contributed.
?Abraham, Sarah and their offspring didn't exist.
?There is no archaeological evidence of the Exodus.
?Monotheism was a process that took hundreds of years.
?The Israelites were actually Canaanites.
?The Israelites believed that God had a wife.

I have often said that PBS should not receive tax dollars. "The Bible's Buried Secrets" is simply one more reason Congress should stop supporting PBS with our tax dollars. Congress gives PBS hundreds of millions of tax dollars to help support the network.

Sincerely,

Don

Donald E. Wildmon,
Founder and Chairman

I just signed. Amazing. If Christianity is not real, what is their problem? Why do they try so hard to discredit it? Don't see them doing that with any other religion.

Lets see them put a program like this about Allah and how Islam is fake. Of course that will never happen. To PC for words and to cowardly too.

While I can understand that Christians would be up in arms over this I really don't see the problem with saying that the Bible is a bunch of stories just made up by humans...that is what it indeed is.  Contrary to what some Christian factions would like the world to believe Charistianity is a farily "young" religion much older are the Muslim/Hebrew/Pagan religions.  In fact Christ himself was Hebrew.  I am not going to sign a petition based upon the fact that someone has expressed their opoinion about the Bible.  PBS is an educational tool, and again contrarly to what some Christian factions would like The U.S. was founded upon freedom Of/from Religion not just the Christian based religions...in fact a great number of those who built this country were not Christians.  The Slaves brought over from Africa had a Pagan based religion before being forced to convert to Christianity.  The Natives who were here when the Chritisan Eurpoean invaders arrived had a Pagan based religion.  It was the Chinese Buddhists who built much of this country's Railroads.  As far as I am concerned, the Bible is a book based upon human history and I don't believe everything between it's pages.  Much of the original Hebrew/Greek language the Bible was written in has been lost to the ages and the bible we have now is not a direct translation.  So nope not gonna sign the petition...not gonna "boycott" PBS for doing what it is they do...educate people...if you don't want to partake you don't have to.

ColeenO....that is your perogative. I do not bash non-believers......my point is.....I am tired of my Christian beliefs being bashed....on a consistant basis by those who accuse me of shoving my beliefs down their throats...while in actuality...it is they who are "deep-throating" me. Your post...in my opinion is an historic masterpiece in itself...and, YES....the Bible IS a history book of sorts. Should I believe your history book more than The Word? Some might think so but I choose to believe on faith alone. As Peter, Paul and Mary said (The group...not the Biblical characters...lol)...."When Will They Ever Learn?"

You quote PP&M (and yes I knew who you meant) They do a bit of "stumping" for PBS during their donation drives, they allowed PBS to film several of their concerts over the years.  I guess one could say that they support PBS.  As far as the bible...you ARE aware that Peter Yarrow Is Jewish are you not?   PP&M sing about tolerance of all peoples...
