like this for football season?  Fantasy football or something?  Where we could have our own group?

I kinda like this.... and it keeps score and everything.

Oh, I'm sure they do. Isn't picking teams in football as big a deal as this basketball thing is?

Yep.
CBS and Yahoo both have free pro pick 'em leagues, which would do all the scoring for us, and keep track, and we'd never have to post the games or worry about our posts getting lost. I guess since we all now have sportsline IDs, it would be easy enough to move the LFL over there.

And are you locked in to those once you click "save" like you are with basketball?

I'm really bummed to learn that you can't change anything. I mean, why even select all those extra brackets? Just pick the first round - if you win, you can move on to pick for the next round. If you lose, you're out anyway, so what's the point in picking teams all the way to the end?

Football is week to week, and you can change your picks up until an hour before the games start.
The NCAA tournament locks them in because in years past (talking 2000-2001), you could change your 2nd round picks, and it would screw up the calcs because it would retroactively mess with the 1st round. So for that reason, and to make it more realistic, gambling-wise (if you bet money, once you turn in your bracket, that's it, no changes, so you're stuck with your 12 seed in the final four and UMBC winning it all).

Also Smig, usually the rounds are "weighted", so even if you don't get all the 1st round games right, if your final 4 teams are still alive, you still have a chance to win, so you really need to hope that any of your final four teams don't lose early.
It's typically 1 pt for 1st round, 2 for second, 4 for third 8 for fourth, 10 or more for the final four, same scale for the championship game, and then whatever point total for correctly getting the national champ. Some leagues don't weight the picks, others do, it all depends.
