I keep forgetting to tell you about this! Remember when we last talked on the phone and I told you about some bird that kept saying, "Beeper beeper beeper" (or maybe "bleeper bleeper bleeper", lol), and I'd never heard that before? Well, it was the Mockingbird after all. It was just a 'new' phrasing I'd never heard before. And I think it has some specific meaning, cuz he/she is no longer saying it, even though he's still around my backyard all the freakin' time. So maybe it was some mating call or something else that isn't used regularly (well, not by birds anyway - ha!). (I talk to him, btw. Every time he's up on the wire over my yard, we sorta talk to each other.) |

HA! Don't be 'cause you talk to birds, I do it too, lol. I talk to the chickadees when I take a walk, and when the hummingbird comes around, I have a conversation with him, too, and there's a downy woodpecker that loves peanuts from the feeder, and when it's empty, he squawks at me. Just the other day my husband asked me who I was talking to, and when I told him the cardinal, he did give me a strange look. Huh, well, I guess I can see where some might think my behaviour is a bit odd I love the mockingbird, all the different sounds and songs they do. |

That's him! LOL Yeah, I don't really think anything of the fact that I talk to all critters. Although I do feel sorta odd standing there looking skyward while I'm doing it, lol. During the summer, when it's warm enough that I have to leave the bedroom windows open, in the middle of the night I can hear the resident mockingbird (assuming it's the same little dude from last year - ?? Or should I not, lol?). Normally, anything that wakes me up during the night sorta pisses me off, lol. But not this. I actually look forward to it. Birdsong is so cool anyway. And these mockingbirds, they have so many different riffs - they are the musicians of the bird world, lol. |

We have a bajillion of those suckers around here. Every time we try to grow tomatoes, they eat them all before we can get to them. We've tried everything but putting them in a rigid greenhouse, and the Mockingbirds find their way past all defenses. We finally gave up and started planting things with berries and fruits for them to eat and forgot about tomatoes. I sing to the mockingbirds, and by about May they've learned to mimic my song and sing back to me. It's the coolest thing! |

That is way cool juju! Man, I just love birds. I have 4 birdhouses, supposed to be for bluebirds, but the sparrows always get them first. I know some people take out the sparrow nest when they build it to try to get the bluebirds, but I don't bother. I went out and checked them the other night, and the little babies are all hatched and sit there with their mouths wide open, thinking I'm gonna give them food. There was one nest I couldn't see in that well, so I told my son to put his hand in and check if the eggs hatched. Poor fella, he yanked his hand out real quick and said they bit his finger. I love having the windows open at night. The crickets, nightjars, killdeer, and all the other critters like coyotes, sometimes a bobcat. Just freakin' love it. And the best part is there is like no traffic on our road, so all's I hear is nature. |

I think every one of us who's ever tried to grow any food has had to deal with that sort of thing, lol. I always just "gave up" myself. I'd rather feed the little goobers anyway. Poor fella, he yanked his hand out real quick and said they bit his finger. I'm glad no one's in the office right now, I started laughing so hard - what a cruel woman you are to make him do that, lol! Hehe, it couldn't have really hurt though, I'm guessing. (Hehehehe - that just really cracks me up....) The crickets, nightjars, killdeer, and all the other critters like coyotes, sometimes a bobcat. I would literally be in heaven. |
