| | Well I guess you're right - she has dropped her membership here. | | Reply
| | From: Tree | Sent: 3/4/2008 9:14 AM | Zel, check our membership list...she's quit. I know of at least 2 who have been "banned" from the Salon, you must not have seemed as threatening as us. | | Reply
| | From: Tree | Sent: 3/4/2008 9:18 AM | Then again, this seems to be a pattern. The person who told me she's quit, and who first told me about being blocked at the salon, also told me that she did the same thing and quit the Loft during the '04 elections. Apparently some people find spirited political discussion and disagreement to be too much to deal with. I have the same problem, but I just stay out of the threads that bother me too much rather than throw out the baby with the bathwater, so to speak. | | Reply
| | Well with Deja I can usually step back and tell myself she's just as passionate as I am. I do usually enjoy reading her and even debating with her sometimes. I still hold onto my hope that we may all be on the same side before this is over. | | Reply
| | From: Tree | Sent: 3/4/2008 9:24 AM | You and me both Zel, you and me both | | Reply
| | Um.... what's the salon? | | Reply
| | It's another message board that was started by Deja a long time ago. Most of the people from there have come here - I think. | | Reply
| | There were several smaller spin off boards, Deja's AIS, Kitty use to have a board I think as did JNP, and Hazz did too....where everyone kinda grouped off a little more than the general population that exists here. But everyone that belonged to the smaller boards for the most part were on again, off again members at the Loft which evolved to this kinder gentler version. | | Reply
| | For that matter, if anyone thinks that I've been unkind to them recently...I apologize. There's been lots of heated emotions and I've really tried to be careful for the most part and I've esp. tried to watch my footing with you Zel because you are a good person. But if anyone else has gotten caught up in the cross fire, offended...then I'm sorry. Just keep in mind for however you feel passionate for something or against something, you can not change a person that feels equally passionate on the opposite side of the subject. Often it is our choice of words that changes a debate to a wrestling match. I accept that I have not always chosen my words well. | | |

| | Hey I think we're all handling it better than we have in the past. I can remember times in the past when I was soooooo ANGRY during elections and back when the Iraq thing started! As a whole we haven't been near that ugly this time! | | Reply
| | If she really left for this reason, its dumb i thought she was much stronger of a woman than that to give up and quit over a debate/political discussion or whatever | | Reply
| | sometimes we just need a break. I know I've taken a few. | | Reply
| | For that matter, if anyone thinks that I've been unkind to them recently...I apologize. Dede, I don't think you have ever been unkind to anyone ever | | Reply
| | I feel the same as Dede (post 30). I apologize as well for anything anyone may have gotten offended over. I have purposefully avoided disputes with anyone for like 3 weeks now, it's not worth it. And I've been much happier because of it, so I'll probably continue in this vein. Anyone who doesn't know by now that I think all politicians are corporate puppets on the take just doesn't know me anyway, lol. | | Reply
| | From: Conrad | Sent: 3/4/2008 10:21 AM | for so many reasons, friends should never argue over politics and religion | | Reply
| | I hope I haven't offended anyone - sorry if I have. I try to keep reminding myself to debate the issues, the candidates, but not make it personal, after all I don't really know anyone here in real life. | | Reply
| | I'm a bully apparently so I don't give a shit. | | Reply
| | I sorta agree with that, Conrad, but I think it really applies more to "acquaintances" than to "friends". I can discuss anything in the world with "friends", and they with me, and it doesn't come to blows. It's only when people don't value each other on that high a level that (imo) they can get so irate. Because you're going to be more careful with your words when there's friendship on the line, for one thing. Just my own experience, though, I can't say that's any sort of absolute for anyone else. I distinctly remember the sort of things that were said during the '04 elections and how people's feelings were raw and how the arguments escalated..... Sorta amazing how seriously we can take these politicians, people we don't even know personally whatsoever, lol. | | |

| | From: Conrad | Sent: 3/4/2008 10:34 AM | you're right Smig, real true friends can say almost anything to each other and talk through it all and worse case, agree to disagree I don't know what happened that lead up to Deja's leaving but I have a pretty good idea... | | Reply
| | For that matter, if anyone thinks that I've been unkind to them recently...I apologize. Dede, I don't think you have ever been unkind to anyone ever What Kitty said........TOTALLY!!!!!!!!!! I try to keep reminding myself to debate the issues, the candidates, but not make it personal, after all I don't really know anyone here in real life. Zel - You have always done a great job at that. I give you ton of credit for being able to do so. | | Reply
| | Deja left? What the hell for? That doesn't make sense. I guess some can't help but take things personally. Like batman says, it's not as if you can really engage in politics free from emotion and passion, but you can't let it rule your life to the point where it decides your friendships. I've never allowed it to dictate mine, and I would only hope everyone would also limit the influence of politics in their personal lives to this degree. | | Reply
| | I think it's sad that people assume she left because of politics. | | Reply
| | LOL... I don't know why she left, she didn't tell me... but I don't like assumptions... not in real life, and not on message boards. So I guess I'm just responding to the initial post here, that she left because of politics... and unless you know for sure, why bring it up? In fact, why bring it up at all? | | Reply
| | well that's a question that is obvious | | Reply
| | From: Conrad | Sent: 3/4/2008 10:59 AM | that's the nature of people, if they don't know the real reason for something they speculate and assume, that can get people in trouble but what are you gonna do? | | |

| | It's not rocket surgery to figure out why people generally leave a place such as a message board. Especially one who has well known and strong opinions, and a history of leaving places when too many don't agree with her. lol | | Reply
| | Wow, rocket surgery must be real difficult and stuff. | | Reply

| | Godiva would you mind if I asked Deja for your email? I didn't want to do it without your permission. | | Reply
| | Sure Dede, no problem. | | Reply
| | Let me get this straight. Deja left for whatever reason? ok. Hope things go well for her and her family. | | Reply
| | Its not all bad that we wonder why she left. It gave us all a chance to say we appreciated her being here and wouldn't mind having her back. | | Reply
| | My point in all this, is that if anyone had a question about it....that already has her email that they should discuss it with Deja rather than making it into something it isn't behind her back. I don't think its fair to have a discussion about her without her here. | | |

| | Like only 1% of the time do people agree with me and I don't have these handle flyoff protests, lol she needs to take a reprieve I suppose if political disagreements prompt her to do such things | | Reply
| | It's obvious why she's fled. | | Reply

| | i'm awaiting that version myself but what i hear of that cover is that deja informed few she was leaving and left no reason, but we are not to be allowed to draw any connection to the increased Loft FNB scrutiny over her candidate | | Reply
| | From: Jnp9 | Sent: 3/4/2008 11:30 AM | well i hope she can make it for the banquet | | Reply

| | I'm not leaking a photo of her in Islamo bin Laden garb, I was simply trying to clear up something about her daycare that I had heard. I thought it was shut down, and so when it was just brought up by J, it occured to me that was not clarified ever so I made mention of it. | | Reply
| | Can't say I'm surprised the thread would devolve into this. | | Reply
| | Just my opinion, but I think we've explored this enough. I'm thinking of moving this to "free swim" now... | | Reply

| | From: Tree | Sent: 3/4/2008 12:08 PM | I was merely commenting on how sad I found it that someone felt it was necessary to quit the group because political discussions had become so tense. It was never my intention for this thread to go into this sort of a discussion. Sorry to all who have been offended, that wasn't my intention. | | |

| | Torty, I'm not aware of anything of the like. Regardless of how anyone feels....I don't think its right to mess with anyone regarding their ability to support their family or maintain their job. If you want to supply proof of what you are saying then I'll leave it, but otherwise its just not right. | | Reply
