Recall when Sawyer murdered that guy whom he was led to believe was the conman who fucked his life up?  That's why Sawyer was in Australia.  Remember it was dark, behind a building--was it a restaurant, a bar?--and raining and the episode ended with Sawyer firing fatal shots into the guy taking out the trash?  

 

Ok, was that in season one?  I don't recall.  And maybe that doesn't matter, though it would make more sense in why I can't recall or picture any (or the) man who told Sawyer he was the one to kill. 

 

Does anyone remember if there was a man who told Sawyer that was the con?  That he was the one to kill, the one who screwed you over when you were young? 

 

I ask because, belive it or not, I know a couple people who are just now starting to watch Lost.  One of them stumbled upon the finale by accident and saw the scene where Jack had broken into the building to see who was in the coffin.  Remember Jack encountered Ben in there before it was revealed to us that Locke was dead. 

 

Well, even though my friend turned the channel as soon as he saw he mistakenly landed on Lost, he saw that it was Ben.  Now, being that he's only in Season 1, he doesn't know who Ben is.  However, in telling me his story, he said that he accidentally saw some of Lost, and he saw that Jack and "that guy who told Sawyer to kill the con man in Australia" in that room with the coffin (he got out before it was revealed who was dead). 

 

So, I've been trying to remember who told (if anyone did) Sawyer who to kill.  Does anyone remember any such individual?  If so, was it Ben?  And if this is all correct, then why would Sawyer have recognized Ben when he got to the island?  Is Sawyer more of a factor than we think?  And why didn't I Google this instead of posing it here?  Well, I'd like to see if anyone knew the answer before we run off and find it out!
