We expected this to be more of a fantasy film than it was. It turned out to be more of a children-dealing-with-life's-problems film. But we still enjoyed it. It has a powerful message about loss and dealing with it, which may be a bit intense for younger viewers, but it's handled in a loving way. Mike in particular enjoyed it, being at a point in life where he's waxing nostalgic about those lost along the way.

I went to IMDb to look up the cast (the boy was in Zathura and the girl was in Because of Winn-Dixie and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, as Violet the blueberry girl). But I discovered that there was a made for PBS version of Terabithia made in the 80's. Did anyone see that one?

I rented the 1985 PBS version over the weekend and .

It had none of the fantasy elements of the film. It was just a couple of kids (who are terrible actors, btw) building a fort in the woods.

It was really short too, less than an hour. The acting was horrible and the music sucked. It was like watching "a very special" afterschool special.

Though it did have a very young Annette O'Toole in it, playing the teacher.

Rent the movie. Forget about the PBS version.
