Oh My God!! They are my favorite snack... I just add a little bit of oil to the chocolate chips before melting them in the microwave... then dip away! |

Found a few things: 1 (1 pound) bag of pretzels | | | 1 teaspoon vegetable shortening or 1 tablespoon heavy cream, plus more, if needed | | | 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips | | 1. Melt chocolate and vegetable shortening in a double boiler over low heat. Stir constantly until JUST melted. Add more shortening, a teaspoon at a time if the chocolate is too thick; it should pour a little faster than maple syrup. When it reaches the right consistency, remove from heat. 2. Dip pretzels one at a time quickly to coat while mixture is still very warm. If mixture starts to harden, stir over a double boiler for about 30 seconds to a 1 minute until melted. Place pretzels on wax paper to set and cool. Immediately dress them up with sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, etc. 3. Let harden in a cool place. The refrigerator speeds the process. Take them out as soon as the chocolate is hard. Store in as cool place or else they will soften. They will keep for about 3 weeks at room temperature if well wrapped. NOTE: Chocolate will not set well if heated too hot or is too thick. To test, put a thin smear of chocolate on a paper plate or wax paper and refrigerate. See if it hardens (about 5- 10 minutes at the most). |

6 | ounces milk chocolate chips | 2 | tablespoons shortening or 1/8 block paraffin wax | 24 | pretzels (3 inch) | - Melt chocolate and shortening or wax over a double boiler or in the microwave.
- Stir until smooth and combined.
- Remove from heat, leaving mixture over hot water if using a double boiler.
- If using microwave you may need to reheat if mixture gets too thick for dipping.
- Dip each pretzel in chocolate, allowing excess to drip off.
- Place on wax paper lined cookie sheets and chill until firm.
_____________________________________________________________________ INGREDIENTS: - 12 ounces chocolate chips, any variety
- 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
- 20 old-time style (thick, not thin) pretzel twists
- Optional: 1 cup toppings such as M&M's, miniature gummy bears, chopped nuts, etc.
PREPARATION: Line two large cookie sheets with waxed paper.
Combine chocolate chips and vegetable shortening in microwave safe bowl. Microwave at 70 percent power for 2 minutes. Stir until smooth. Continue microwaving and stirring for additional 15 seconds each time until completely smooth. Using a fork, dip each pretzel into chocolate mixture and gently tap off excess. Place on cookie sheet. Sprinkle on topping. Leave undisturbed until completely set. Refrigerate, if necessary, to completely set the chocolate. >function obL(a){if(a[0]!="Elsewhere on the Web"){var uc=(a[0]=="Related Resources"||a[0]=="Suggested Reading")?"18/19C":"18/19D";w(" "+a[0]+"");var i=1;while(a[i]){if(a[i+1].substring(0,26)=="http://video.about.com/gv/")a[i+1]="javascript:zpu('','http://clk.about.com/?zi=18/1K3&zu="+a[i+1]+"',470,450,'vp',(screen.width-470)/2,(screen.height-450)/2)"

Thanks breeze! I'll try that one that uses just 24 pretzels so I can test out if I can do it without wasting too much stuff! |

YOu can buy it in a bar or as a big block. If you go to any store, it's back where all the chocolate is. It's really good chocolate, and I use it for baking alot. I have a huge block of it ready for pretzels, and I just put it on my rice krispy treats today. mmmm! |
