6 medium potatoes
1/4 c butter
1 medium onion, chopped
1 tbsp flour
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
2 c milk
2 c shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 c bread crumbs

Pre heat oven to 375

Slice unpealed potatoes.  Melt butter in large saucepan over medium heat.  Add onion and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, until tender.  Stir in salt, pepper, and flour.  Cook until bubbly.  Stir in milk and 1 1/2 c shredded cheese.  Cook for 1 minute.

Spread potatoes in ungreased casserole dish.  Pour cheese sauce over potatoes.  Bake uncovered for 1 hour.  Mix remaining cheese and bread crumbs, sprinkle over potatoes and bake an additional 15 to 20 minutes, or until topping is brown and bubbly.

Mmmmmm.....I love au gratin potatoes....

But you could probably just pour the cheese sauce directly into my mouth and I'd be content, lol.

You know what else would be good in this? Some chopped up bacon. I love potato cheese and bacon.

Yup!

A lot of times, when I find a recipe, I almost always adjust it to my tastes.

I tried this recioe, but I doubled it, and it turned out awful :( I don't know what I did wrong. I skipped the onion bc I don't like em. And I doubled everything else. I should just stick to the box kind.

I'm sorry Flo!    Ya know, I've tried some of the boxed ones, and they're really not all that bad.  I don't like the Velveeta brand ones, but the Betty Crocker was OK.

I don't know why this didn't turn out well for you.

Its sounds very similar to my mac & cheese recipe.  I'll give it a shot soon.
