I sorta prefer to do this before I read other people's reviews, so I'm not influenced, lol.
This review is for Tuesday, 7/11/06:
Magni - My Generation
Ok, much improved from last week, he did a very good job. And it was a good song choice. That said, he's not a stand-out for me at this point, so I don't see him fronting this band. And do you think he understood the real meaning of the line, "Hope I die before I get old?" LOL, does anyone understand the real meaning these days?
Jenny Galt - Tainted Love
Ick. Ick vocals, very ick arrangement. Not a good song choice anyway, as it's quite limited and wouldn't show enough range. Not that I think she has range. She's just not right for this.
Jill Gioia - Violet
So are impressions the only thing this girl does? Last week she did Joplin, this week she does the Ho? Screaming won't cut it, neither will unoriginal, uninspired impersonations. The little girl with the big voice is a big flop.
Zayra Alvarez - You Really Got Me
For fuck sake, go home already! Man, you open the doors at a studio, anyone can walk in. They're not looking for a pole dancer, honey, they want a lead singer! Ugh!
Chris Pierson - Take Me Out
Oh great, ruin another song I like! Homeboy couldn't find the key if it was attached to a door. Someone take him out. Please.
Dilana - Ring of Fire
I want to bear her children. OMG, she's the most awsome woman I've seen in decades. What a beautiful, intense, hot, sexy, sultry, talented, phenomenal woman! That voice is just too incredible for words, her stage presence makes everyone else in the house look like a rank amateur, her arrangement of that song was amazing and proves she has that gene as well. Just let everyone else go home early. She's the one.
Josh Logan - With Arms Wide Open
Ok, bad song choice for him. It's a great song, but wasn't a good choice last night. He has a great voice and he sounded 'good', but he needs to sound 'great'. At least he wasn't grinning like an idiot this time, lol, but his stage presence was a bit lacking. Of course, it's hard to follow Dilana, lol. If he could've gone after Zayra, maybe he would've sounded much better to us. He's a keeper, he just needs better material.
Phil Ritchie - If You Can Only See
One word, honey - ENUNCIATE! I want to hear at least one lyric pronounced so I can know what you're singing about. Excuse me, what you're whining about. You sing like Bob Dylan with perfect pitch! You're pretty, but please...articulate your lyrics and stop whining them! And um....get some stage presence. You look weak out there. I think you have potential, I just don't think you're near ready for this yet.
Storm Large - Surrender
Good song choice, she did a pretty good job with the singing, but it was just too amateurish. And she's not memorable. She needs to better develop her stage personna, and then she might do well. She's not ready for this band though.
Patrice Pike - Heartshaped Box
I held my breath that she was going to try Nirvana, but she really surprised me. Excellent song choice, very good vocals, I love that she's a 'real' musician and can play. But she lacks polish and stage presence, so isn't quite ready for this level yet.
Lukas Rossie - Don't Panic
Ah, the Poseur Boy for Fake Rockers! Um...ok, that song sucks eggs, so it's hard to get past that. How do bad songs get airplay anyway, lol? But that aside, his vocals were actually pretty good, better than last week. Except....he's just icky. I dunno, I always have a problem with poseurs. He's insincere, not genuinely what he's presenting himself to be. He's just...icky.
Ryan Star - Jumpin' Jack Flash
Much improved over last week. Very good energy, and that was a good song choice. He has a decent voice, he just lacks personality - or at least lacks the gumption he needs to reveal that part of himself. He could improve though, so I'm not ready to see him leave. Not before several others anyway, lol.
Dana Andrews - Born to be Wild
Why do I feel like I'm about to enter a 1940s movie when I hear that name, lol? Um, anyway....homegirl clearly missed the American Idol auditions, or got lost on the way. She wouldn't know this genre if she was rolled by a rock. Or rocked by a roll. Whatever, go home for fuck sake! Pretty girl, no soul whatsoever.
Toby Rand - Somebody Told Me
Perfect song choice for him, excellent vocals. He's the strongest, most polished of all the guys in the show. Excellent stage presence, nothing fake about him, and he's pretty hot. (Not my type, J, don't worry, lol)
I think it's going to come down to being between Dilana (*sigh*) and Toby, unless a miracle happens to one of the others.
Prediction for bottom three:
Jill Gioia
Zayra Alvarez
Chris Pierson
Should be in bottom three:
Zayra Alvarez
Chris Pierson
Dana Andrews
Ok, now I can read everyone else's comments, lol....
