I belong to a tarot board and its been a good experience.  After you've been a member long enough, you can volunteer to do free readings for the members.  The best part of that is you are assigned a mentor that is a professional in the field.  My mentor is also an astrologist and has interacted on several occassions with both Mary K. Greer and Rachel Pollack (two of the most popular tarot authors out there...I have several of Mary Greers books)

If you are interested in the board let me know.  I've been studying tarot since about October of last year and its been a very enjoyable experience for me.  If you don't mind me asking...what are the books and decks you ordered?

Barnes and Noble University offers fairly regular free classes for tarot as well.

Oh wow... great information!   I got a couple of of Mary Greer's books...

Let me see... <went a bit manic with buying the books, but figured I could sell them if they weren't great or were too many... A lot of reviewers said they had a tarot library, so took the cue from them. lol>

Mary Greer
  • Tarot Mirrors
  • The Complete Book of Tarot Reversals
  • and then...

  • Tarot Awareness by Walter Sterling, Stephen
  • Beginner's Guide to Tarot by Juliet Sharman-Burke
  • Power Tarot: More Than 100 Spreads That Give Specific Answers to Your Most Important Question by Trish Macgregor and Phyllis Vega
  • The two decks I got were:

  • Morgan Greer Tarot Deck English [Tarot]
  • Sharman-Caselli tarot deck that comes with Beginner's Guide to Tarot
  • I would like to see about that board.  It sounds really great...   Thanks!

I'll get you the link for the board.

Mary Greers book on reversals is awesome.  It excellent upright interpetations as well.  It one of my two go to books.  My other is Tarot Made Simple by Anthony Louis.  Love that book too.

I have the Power Tarot book but just for spreads I don't use the card meanings in the book.

I would recommend at some point that you pick up a Rider Waite deck because so many books refer to the imagery found that.  Since many decks are based on that one, once you get the general imagery then its easy to pick out in the decks that followed the Rider Waite symbolism.

Tarot From The Heart is also a great reference, its a dictionary of sorts.  (I hope I've got the name right.)
