Trip to Las Vegas for Joe Gibbs Racing Motorcoach Goes Awry Over Unscheduled Pit Stop
February 26th, 2008
Tony Stewart didn’t know what he was getting into when he told his boss J.D. Gibbs he had to go to the bathroom only 56 miles into the trip from Auto Club Speedway to the next track on the Sprint Cup Circuit in Las Vegas.
JD Gibbs skipped right over formailities like “Why didn’t you go before we left??and “I told you not to drink all that Coca-Cola for breakfast!?and skipped right to, “Goddammit!?/SPAN>
Not only did Tony’s declaration of urinary distress come just as the Gibbs Racing motor coach passed the exit for a nice, clean place California state rest area, but the next opportunity to pull off the road was state highway AB, notorious among Interstate 15 travelers for the distance from the nearest gas station to the exit.
Once Tony hopped out of the motor coach, things went downhill rapidly, as station attendant Jaron VanDeuser informed Mr. Gibbs that the key to the unisex crapper had slipped from the pocket of his sagging jeans as he had used the facilities an hour before the Gibbs Racing Team’s arrival. When Mr. VanDeuser asked why they couldn’t use the bathroom on the motor coach Denny Hamlin simply replied, “Shitter’s full.?Apparently Gibbs Racing motor coach driver Ron Finkelstien forgot to “unload all the loads?after a rain-soaked weekend at the track.
Ultimately, Tony discreetly relieved himself against the right rear tire of Mr. VanDeuser’s 1979 Ford Pinto, both writing his name and doing the “rainbow.?nbsp; The entire episode set the Gibbs racing family back nearly 17 minutes from their scheduled arrival time.
