I went to a birthday party last night.     The birthday "Boy" was 81 and dying of lung cancer.

I took my camera and took his picture with everybody in small groups.     He was very patient and did every request with enthusiasm I know he did not feel.       Corky is well loved in this community!      Everybody wanted a print of the photos I took of them with Corky.

Now,  the photos are gone.

I was downloading them to my standby pc.     My main pc died last june.       As I was trying to download the 4 gigabyte memory card to my new/back up computer it froze.       As this was the first time I have tried using such a large card with this pc it did not occur to me that It was incompatible.     It froze,   I waited.    I waited.    I tried to do something/anything else.

Nothing worked.       I did the three finger salute.    Got the task manager and did a forced stop to the program not responding.      Then I pulled the card out of the pc and put it back in.     Then I learned that the card was now scrambled,  and in need of a re-format.

WHAT????????         How could this be?????       The memory card was a 4 gig card and had never been used in my new/back up computer before.       It was incompatible with this pc.

I am so disgusted right now I have been screaming for the last half day!!      I let everybody down.       I feel like such a moron.

Thanks Ariel,   but I forgot to add.    The photos are all gone.
The only way to get the card working again was to reformat it.

I even tried putting it back in my camera.    No good.   All I could get from my camera was "This card needs to be re-formatted."
Same as my pc.

So I did.      Thats why I feel so lousy.

This was one of those one time only photo shoots that will never come around again.

I already sent out emails to every person who was there that I have an addy for.
Explaining what happened with my sincere apologies.

I just never had a reason to question that memory card in my new/back up pc.
So I never tried to use it or anything like that.

I have been kinda depressed since my last pc died,  not really trying to take many photos.     My heart just wasn't in it anymore.        I had a small surgery a week ago last friday to remove some painful lumps from my right elbow.     They removed two lymph nodes that were re-infected with a type of mold again.
Now that I am able to take photos again,  I still want to.     I won't give up!

Jeez...doesn't that bite the big one!I know nothing about memory cards, I've never even used one for the computer.Try not to be so hard on yourself luke, it can happen to anyone. Is there any way you can return the card? Did you keep your receipt?

The card came with my camera.

But all I had to do to use it again was to re-format the card.
If the data gets scrambled,  then re-format and the card should be ok.
I did and the card is also.

I was whining about the photos that I lost.     The cards are cheap in comparisen to the guilt I feel.    I can get 4,  1 gig cards for around $50.00.      Cheap.
And I should have used a 1 gig card that night.      I just never thought it would make a difference which card I used.

Oh well.     Another hard earned lesson.      Use the cable to download from the camera to the pc.
