We got up and the storm continued, the rain never let up.  My Grandfather's church had a dinner that night and he had volunteered to open cans.  He left and soon after I got a phone call.  My cousin said, "Where's Pappaw?" I said, "He went to church to open cans."  She said, "What?!!!?  Our county is in a state of emergency.  There are flood warnings and they are closing some roads."

So I am getting nervous.  Indiana is flat!  No mountains there, a flood is a big deal.  My Granpa isn't worried so he goes to watch tv in his room.  My husband went to sleep.  My daughter and my cousin's daughter were happily playing in the playroom.  My son must have been channeling me because he was running in circles saying the water is going to get me.  He wouldn't stop.

And to clarify I DIDN'T talk about the storm or flood to him or the other kids.  I didn't want them to be worried.  Anyway I look out the window and the water's filling up the street and leaking some into the yard.  I talk to my Grandpa... he says they have good drains, not to worry, this is all fine.  So I TRY not to worry.  Then I look out the window and there's a small "river" flowing in between my Grandpa's house and the neighbors.  It wasn't there to begin with.  This "river" is flowing into the stream behind the house.  In this "river" there's a black garbage can floating by.

Hi Dis!  I am thankful everyone was okay too!

So back to the story.  I go outside to see if it's Pappaw's garbage can and then all this water comes at once.  I learn later that it was a dam breaking.  The water is up to the rims on my car.  There is gas in the water.  Pappaw's entire yard is covered in water.  The "river" in between the houses is much bigger.

The debris from the tornadoes is clogging up the drains.  The fire department is going around trying to unclog the drains.  My cousin calls again.  The store where she works is flooded.  The water in the street is up to her waist.

My daughter and her daughter are loving it.  The are watching all the debris float by and laughing over what they see.  I'm glad they weren't scared but I had a heck of a time keeping them out of the water.

I didn't know if more was coming or not.  It was still raining.  Pappaw said it was the worst he's ever seen.  The water isn't in his house yet but it's touching his porch and the "river" is touching the outside of his house as it flows by.  I was petrified.

Okay this is the second time I've typed this so if two show up then you'll get more of the story.

I don't feel like typing it all again so I'll shorten it.

The waters went down and we were all fine.  I was very thankful.

My son had an allergic reaction to a spider bite.  We don't want him on steroids unless he really needs it is taking longer go away.

Hubby didn't listen to me, he thought is was just a bite, and then poison ivy because it kept moving.  I knew it was hives, I wanted to take him to the emergency room or the doctor while we were there and he wanted to wait until we got home.  We did wait and he's fine now.  Not even scratching but I hate that he has to wait longer for it to go away.

The last time he had steroids he flipped out and was crazy for a week.  So I think I made the right choice by not giving it to him but I am not positive.

Even though all that happened I still think we had a good vacation.  The kids loved it, I got to be with family and it was just wonderful.

I'm glad we went.  And I am sure my kids will never forget this one.

OMG RID!!!!  First of all, welcome back!!!  Wow it sure does sound like a trip your kids will never forget!!!  These storm systems have been really scarey this spring...  Our temps have been in the high 80's for a week or two and now next week is only going to be in the 70's....  That means we'll probably have some storms before this cool down!!!

We border Michigan and they had some nasty storms Sunday and Monday and some people are still without hydro from downed power lines still today...  We had the same storms and they were bad...  But we didn't have any real damage...  A place not far from us had alot of hail damage though...   Thankfully we didn't get that...

But I'm so glad you and your family were safe from all the tornadoes...   And I'm especailly glad that you enjoyed your vacation!!!   But that flooding would have definitely had me scared!!!

Wow, glad to hear you all made out safe & sound Rid.Glad to hear your Pappaw didn't get any structual damage to his house or to your vehicles for that matter!I seen on the news this morning that the mid-west has had just as many storms this year that they had last year, but this season is only half over!Isn't it funny how a child can read their mother, even if you haven't said anything to him about the water?Happy to hear you enjoyed your vacation, it will be a fond memory for your kids.

I was scared Ariel!  I'm glad to hear you didn't have any real damage from your storms.

Dis I am glad that Pappaw didn't have any damage to his house.  I thank God for that.  Yeah the kids have been telling the story of the flood to all their friends.  Well my daughter has... my son has a bit more trouble expressing what happened.  He just talks about the new "river" at Pappaws house and the water in the street.  Then I explain what he means.

My son is very good about channeling me.  He always seems to pick up if I am scared or upset.  I try not to let it show but he is very in tune to me.  Which is good because it means we are very close but bad because he gets upset when I am.

Okay so I need to tell you about my weekend...  I couldn't find what hubby wanted for his birthday so I had no present for him...

Saturday I was supposed to have a joke surprise tea for my Dad... well the joke was on me because NO ONE SHOWED UP!!  LOL  I couldn't find my Dad to bring him over.  All my guests for some reason or another couldn't come.

So me, hubby and the kids had the joke tea for ourselves... hahahahaha... I did save some cheesecake and snacks for my Dad but we ate a lot!!!!!

Then hubby and I went out to dinner.  Afterwards we went to Walmart to get a pool for the kids and hubby changed his mind about what he wanted for his birthday.  So we bought that and ended up not buying the pool... hahahahaha  They didn't have the kind we wanted so we had to order it.

So the next morning we get ready for church.  My son has still had the allergic reaction but benedryl was keeping it under control.  He would have one or two spots tops and the benedryl would take it away.  I had called the doctor and she said it was just taking a long time to get better because we refused to put him on steroids unless absolutely necessary.

Well we get to church and my son is COVERED in hives... (We had to leave church with everyone having to ask us why we were leaving on the way out.) So he ended up having to take steroids and he is not doing well emotionally.  He is crying and banging his head.  But I had to give them to him or he wouldn't get better.

*sigh*

And then it was my cousin's daughter's first birthday and we were late for that because we had to get my son and his hives squared away.(I would've missed it altogether had it been necessary)  So we were forgiven for being late since we had a good excuse!!!    And the night before I had stayed up until 3 on the computer without moving and my feet had swelled.  Well I helped my cousin and was on my feet pretty much the whole time and my feet really swelled then.  They were huge.  But after everyone left we got in the pool and that took the swelling down.  I was glad because I didn't want to have to go to the doctor.

On Monday I stayed home and didn't do anything!

So on Tuesday I planned on getting started early... shopping... then going to the library function... then getting lunch... then taking son to therapy... then finishing shopping... then fixing dinner... then relaxing...

Here's what happened.  I couldn't find my keys!!!  I spent the morning trying to find them.  I found them in my son's toy box.  So no shopping in the morning.  We go to the library function and we are a bit early.  So my son get's on the library computers.  He's quiet and not bothering anyone.

My son didn't want to go to the library.  He cried before I took him in.  But I talked him into it.  So he's being good and quiet.  The function is about to begin and the person that is running the function... walks over to the computer where my son is... shuts it down without warning and physically picks him up and sets him on the floor.  She then takes the keyboard and puts it up where he can't reach it.

My son was in shock and then he just started crying.  His little heart was broken. And then she had the gall to ask me to keep him quiet while she was talking.  So then I had had it.  I didn't want to show my ass while the fucntion was going on but she got on my last nerve.  I told her about my son's autism.  I told her that there was no need to do what she did in the way she did it to ANY child but especially not a child with autism.  They have rules about kids being on computers(a stupid rule in my opinion) during the fucntions... fine but she didn't have to do it the way she did it.  And then I said my son wouldn't be crying if she had just acted like a human instead of a witch.

Then I left but not before I talked to the head librarian and she promises to talk to the lady about being nicer. (Good luck).  I was furious.

So then we had lunch and rushed to make it to son's therapy.  He was a mess.  He just sat in the floor and banged his head.  He refused to do his therapy unless me and my daughter were with him.  I haven't had to go back with him since he was 3.  They were great with him and calmed him down.  He even did some work.  But it was hard on him.  And we ended up staying and hour and a half for a fourty five minute session...  His therapist is great with him.  She never gets flustered no matter what he is doing.  She is calm and that helps calm him.  I would do well to emulate that with him.

Since he was calm I tried to go shopping with him but that was a bad idea.  I ended up having to leave and so I have to shop today.  If he's amendable.  He seems fine but...  We'll see...

Yeah I was pretty mad.  It takes a lot for me to speak to someone like that but I think it was justified in this case.

Today went well.  My son was much better behaved today.  And I'm glad.

Well first of all, I'm glad to hear the swelling came down in your feet. The lady at the library was out of line. To just shut the computer off without any explaination and then pick him up and and set him down in a different spot, and put the keyboard up high without any concern about his feelings is at the very least rude!I don't blame you for being mad at the witch! If people, well teachers or people like that women would only stop and think(or read about) how difficult it is for a child with autism to handle a sudden change in routine. It isn't the same response as a 'typical' child's response, not even close. You are right Rid, she definetly needs a crash coarse in 'how to act like a human being even when your not one!' Your son's therapist sounds like a keeper! How long does he have to be on the steriods?Really hope he feels better soon.
