Smoky Bacon Burgers
Prep time: 10 minutes
Broiling time: 10 to 15 minutes
A touch of liquid smoke and a wrapping of bacon give these burgers
an outdoors taste and added juiciness.
For 4 servings you will need:
1 lb. very lean ground beef
1 egg
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
3/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. black pepper
1/2 to 1 tsp liquid smoke flavoring
4 slices bacon
4 lettuce leaves
4 tomato slices
4 toasted hamburger buns

Preparation:
Combine beef, egg, onion, salt, black pepper and liquid smoke, blending well.
Divide into quarters. shape each quarter into a thick patty.
Wrap a strip of bacon around outside of eaach patty. Hold with a toothpick.
Place burgers on oiled broiler rack. Broil 5 to 6 inches from source of heat
for 5 to 8 minutes on each side or until meat is done to your liking.
To serve, put lettuce and tomato on toasted hamburger buns.
Top with coooked patties (removing toothpicks first).
 -
Tips:You may prepare the meat patties ahead, cover and refrigerate
until ready to cook. If desired, patties may be cooked over a charcoal grill.

Good served with:Quartered deep fried, unpeeled potatoes and raw
vegetable relishes.
