SIRLOIN WITH SPECIAL SAUCE
6 Servings
2 tablespoons CRISCO Shortening
2 pounds beef sirloin steak, cut about 1-1/2 inches thick
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 lemon, thinly sliced
3 medium onions, thinly sliced (about 2 cups)
1/2 cup CRISCO Shortening
2 tablespoons prepared mustard
1 cup chili sauce
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1 can (6 ounces) tomato juice
Preheat oven to 350ºF.
Melt 2 tablespoons Crisco in a large skillet with an oven-proof handle. Brown steak about 3 minutes on each side over medium-high heat. Remove from heat. Season with 1/4 teaspoon salt.
Place lemon slices over meat. Arrange onion slices over lemon.
Blend Crisco and mustard; blend in chili sauce, Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon salt, and chili powder. Spread over onion and lemon. Pour tomato juice into skillet around steak.
Bake at 350ºF about 20 minutes (for rare) or until desired degree of doneness is reached.
