Thank you for writing to MSN Groups Technical Support.

My name is Alvin and I will be assisting you today. I have received your request for assistance and understand that you are unable to install the MSN Photo Upload Control. I apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced.

Here are the possible reasons why you encounter issues in downloading the MSN Photo Upload Control.

-  the temporary Internet files or cache on the computer may be full
-  the security settings may be set to "High"

Have you tried clearing your browser's cache? The Temporary Internet Files folder contains recorded items you have seen or downloaded from the web. Storing these files in your cache can make browsing the web faster, but all those files take up space, which can cause performance problems. I suggest that you regularly clear the cache, as it will help improve your browser's performance.

To clear the temporary Internet files or cache and the browser history in Internet Explorer:

   a. Click "Tools".
   b. Click "Internet Options".
   c. Click the "General" tab.
   d. Click "Delete Files" under "Temporary Internet Files". Select "Delete all offline content," and then click "OK".
   e. Click "Settings".
   f.  Select "Every visit to the page" option button under "Check for newer versions of stored pages", and then click "OK".
   g. Click "Clear History" on the "General" tab under History, and click "Yes".
   h. Click "OK".

I also advise you to check your Internet Explorer security settings.

   a. Using Internet Explorer, click "Tools".
   b. Click "Internet Options".
   c. Click the "Advanced" tab and then scroll down to the "Security" section.
   d. Clear the "Warn about invalid certificates" check box.
   e. Click "OK".
   f. Under the "Security" tab, click "Default Level."
   g. Verify that the slider is set to "Medium". If it is not, click to select the slider and then move the pointer to "Medium".
   h. Click "OK".

If you recently installed a version of the MSN Photo Upload Control, you may also want to try removing and reinstalling the control (as the previously installed version might be corrupted and needs to be changed).

To remove the MSN Photo Upload Control on your computer:

   a. Click "Tools".
   b. Click "Internet Options".
   c. Click the "General" tab.
   d. Click "Settings" under "Temporary Internet Files".
   e. Click "View Objects".
   f.  Right-click on the MSN Photo Upload Control in the "Downloaded Program Files" folder.
   g. Click "Remove".

To reinstall the MSN Photo Upload Control:

   a. Sign in to your MSN Groups.
   b. Click "Pictures ".
   c. Click "Add Photo".
   d. Click "Install" to download the control.
   e. Click "Yes" if a security warning dialog box appears.

This download takes approximately 3 to 4 minutes with a 56Kbps modem. If you have Windows XP SP2 installed, a yellow bar may appear at the top of your browser window that prompts you to install an ActiveX control. ActiveX is not a programming language. It is a set of rules that tells software applications, it also helps how to share information and operate in Windows operating system. Click the yellow bar to install the tool.

NOTE: The control can only be installed on certain versions of Internet Explorer. Therefore, if you are using a different browser, you will not be able to use this functionality. To download and install Internet Explorer, visit http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/default.mspx

Please also check your computer if you downloaded a third party software (such as HotBar, McAfee anti-virus program, AdKiller, Gator, Firewall settings, ZoneAlarm, etc.) as it may be conflicting with MSN Groups. Microsoft does not support third party software and we recommend that you contact your network administrator or firewall manufacturer for set up instructions on how to enable all ActiveX controls for downloading and installing.

There are a variety of tools that can detect and remove unwanted softwares from your computer. Please go to http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/default.mspx or http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx, to learn more about Spyware and download the detection and removal tools.

You are a valuable customer to MSN and we are glad to give you consistent and effective service.

Thank you for using MSN Groups.

Sincerely,

Alvin
