We all know about immigrants coming into OUR countries and once here fleecing the system and crying the Racism flag when they can't get their own way..
They also wear veils.. yet we are NOT allowed to go into banks and shops, etc wearing a crash helmet as CCTV and staff cannot see our faces.

Here's a few pics to amuse you:-

I find this comment deeply offensive and yes racist.  Historically, this country is made up of immigrants.  I am one such and I assure you I do not "fleece the system" or "carry the racism flag"  as suggested, nor do I "wear velils".

The majority of us "immigrants" are hard working law abiding citizens who contribute in a positive way to the society we live in.

This might well be "humour" but frankly I have no desire to be a member of any group of people who condones or harbour such ideals.  It comes as no surprise that the member who express views of this nature remains anonymous.

I applaude and support  freedom of speech but reserves the right to disagree.

Victoria.

Victoria, sorry if you found offence, but none was intended. It was meant as humour, though pointing out the serious side, London bombings, 911.
I am not suggesting all immigrants are bad people at all, just a few of them, the extremists.. they come to UK yet hate the English and want to kill or maim many innocent people.

I am certainly not rascist and work or have worked with Kurds (from Iraq), Indian, Lithuanians.

There is a saying "When in Rome do as the Romans do".
If you go to another country you respect and abide by their laws, etc.

Imagine a bank robbery, people shot dead, maybe your own family, relatives or friends, and the cctv couldn't identify the killers because their faces were covered.. the very people you want to see caught and locked up for their crimes.

You shouldn't take things too seriously in here, all I can say it's a good thing you aren't blonde as there's loads of jokes about blondes.

Victoria I think you made part of the point that Kev was making.
As a person who has lived on three continents in 7 countries I was told 'this is the way we do things here and if you don't like it go home' In the UK we tend to do things differently, for the main we welcome newcommers or whatever you like to call them, however the brit has one thing that most others can never understand and thats our humour. Because of this newcommers get the wrong end of the stick often. When you decide to live in a new country you should accept that you are the outsider and to become an insider you must comply to certain ways of life. If you can not then don't expect an easy ride, if you do then your welcome, so I and others have a right to speak there mind here, you may not like it, I may not like it but I will protect any persons right to say what they think. And thats why a lot of incommers come here, its the others who do come to 'milk the system', and at the same time run the rackets, work black(that means illegal before you start shouting racest) and scream raceism when they get cought. Please don't tell us there arn't many of them, because there are thousands. We brits will moan about anything and anyone thats part of being a brit but we will not accept incommers telling us how we should adapt to there way of life, they should adapt to there hosts ways, you will all be made welcome. I assume Victoria you are happy here and have no problems with becoming a brit? good but please do not be so sensitive, sadly thats have the problem now did I tell you the one about...............

Kev, Phil, I think you missed my point.  What I objected to was the "blanket/global condemnation". There are good and bad people all over.   We walk a very dangerous path if we condemn on a level that does not take this into account.

I too subscribe to "when in Rome do as the Romans do"  -  if only this was ture of everyone of us, no matter in which country or corner of the world we find ourselves, then there would be far less misunderstandings and conflicts generally.

Am I thin skinned? I don't think so.  I am appaled and disgusted at the events of 9/11 and 7/7 and find it difficult to understand the mentality of anyone who could bring about such acts in the name of whatever they believe.  The acts are inhuman, barbaric and totally against nature itself. But I do not lay these dreadful deeds at the door of everyone who belong to that group.

Anyway, I believe I've said enough on the subject.  And by the way Kev, I AM BLONDE!!!

Victoria

I agree with Victoria completely. I mean, I can take a joke as well as the next guy, but this, in my opinion, doesn't count as humour. Although I'm not an immigrant myself, I don't think they're all bad. As for some being bad and some not, well don't you think that's true about people all over the world?
As for 'When in Rome...' I'm all for that. But that doesn't necessarily mean people have to give up their culture and their beliefs.

Hi Sheena & everyone

Thanks for your comments, but the comment was never meant to imply ALL immigrants are bad, just SOME of them. (There is good and bad in everyone).
I use a shop on a regular basis run by asians and I've found them to be very helpful, friendly and they give me a discount when I buy in bulk. I have been into other shops run by asians where they are usually very friendly but sometimes they will look at you and talk in their own langage to each other, probably saying bad things .. to me this is downright rude.
I worked with an Indian guy and he was well liked by everyone.. he told us that he was dating a mixed race (half-cast) girl, but he could never marry her as she would never be accepted by the family.. so, goes to show that black/coloured people can be racist.
The same goes for religion...  a family will say to their daughter,  "You want to find yourself a nice Catholic boy" .. any guy who is a different religion is not accepted.. that is a form of racism.

I agree that people should not have to give up their beliefs, cultures, etc, but I do think the wearing of veils in public should be outlawed for security reasons. As far as I am aware there is no need to wear veils since the Taliban was brought down.

I read in a newspaper that one of their reporters to an airport wearing a veil and got onto the aircraft without having to lift their veil and show their face. Was this because security staff weren't doing their job correctly, or did they fear being called a rascist if they had asked for the veil to be lifted in order to check the person was the same as in the photo on the passport?
I think we can all agree that safety & security are essential to protect everyone in society, especially after 911. If people wearing veils went unchallenged at airports then we could even have men pretending to be women boarding planes.. they could be criminals, sex offenders fleeing the country, suicide bombers, etc.

If you can remember Coke pulled out on a sponsorship deal with Madonna when she released a video for her "Like a prayer" song because they though she was portraying Jesus as being black.. that makes coca-cola racist.
Political correctness has gone too far nowadays, we cannot have a blackboard, yet we can have a whiteboard.. isn't that racist too?

It is a very complex subject.. and often people misinterpret things.
As Waz says, "always look on the bright side of life"

Yesterday while looking through the boards here i noticed this thread...and it gave me great cause for thought, so today i came back and re-read it and i'm glad i did and now feel able to comment, for what its worth.
First i agree with the last comments by Kev who says about political correctness going to far..i.e., blackboards/whiteboards etc..we also have manholes becoming access covers, and surely we are all sickened about birmingham deciding it isnt Christmas anymore but either festival of lights or some other rubbish..Its Christmas and if you dont believe me ask any foreigner in this country and they will say "yes it is"..
Other comments were made about "our british sense of humour" and i thank God that we have got it..and we share it, and we are always the first to laugh at our own stupidity too..we also still have left the "Blitz mentality" which helped us overcome the bombings here both from the IRA over the past 30+yrs to the recent ones by terrorists.(not freedom fighters) because their object isnt freedom but oppression to the rules of life they wish to dictate. One comment about the pic of the London bombings showing the bus..wrong date..that was on the 23rd July 05..because i was just a few mins in front of that bus and had turned the corner and was aproximately at the junction of Bethnal Green Road when it went off..
I have no thoughts of racism in my life..its people that hurt people not race, creed or colour..my family contains german.english, indian, greek, irish, christian. and jewish and also my ex was a cherokee indian and my 2 daughters and my grandson and grandaughter are registered as such in america..we need rememebr that the strongest dogs are like us brits..mongrels..lol..weve got the best of all breeds here..and as its our country of course we have the right to complain and moan and even ridicule those coming here to take advantage of our system..
One guiding rule i have tried to use in dealing with various people most of my adult life is this..where can we meet in agreement rather than just looking at where do we disagree..this is such a positive thing that i would encourage everyone to try it..i even try teaching the kids around here who seem to have adopted me as a "father figure" for some reason the same thing..even as to using it for their benefit with their parents..
I hope nobody minded me spouting from my little soapbox on this..regards and respect  to you all....
                                         Hugsssssssssss from John

Thanks Jane...now todays update on this....in the very first comment on this thread it was mentioned about the wearing of veils as being against the rest of us and a stupid way of security in banks etc..well today it was revealed in the news here that a suspect wanted in connection with the murder of a policewoman, stole HIS SISTERS passport...then dressed as a woman, and wore a veil and walked out of the country through a major airport and back to Senegal...amn oh man what a dumb freaking world this is where passport pics arent even checked  to the bearer in case it offends them...why the F**K do we bother with passport controls at all..yet when i go to the USA in ordinary dress and an open face i am subjected to not just a glace but a full interview almost and now i even get fingerprinted..maybe i should wear a veil and gloves and claim i am some obscure sect and i can get through without the full 1/2 hour queues that are the norm for such things..

                             GRRRRRRRRRRR..from John on his soapbox..

I agree with what you say John.
I agree that we need laws to protect people from racial discrimination, but the way things are now they are ridiculous.. people are scared they will be branded racist, etc.
I'm going on holiday with my girlfriend next month and I can assure you I will make sure that faces are shown.. after all, it could be bin laden boarding the plane.
