Have you ever had an experience that seemed surreal? That what was happening was something that happened only in movies or story books? The past few days I have been involved with a situation that nightmares are composed of. A very close friend of mine and her 25 year old son were home (Hamilton) when they received a phone call from the son's former girlfriend (Niagara Region) and the mother of his one year old son stating that she was pressing charges against him because he (allegedly) uttered death threats against her. The x-girlfriend is pregnant by her present boyfriend ( we think) and is planning to get married. However she states that she has phoned the Police in Niagara Region and pressed charges against him. So Friday night my friend and her son drove one hour to turn himself in at 1:00am. However, bail has been denied because he possesses two registered rifles for skeet shooting which are locked safely stored and according to regulation. These two rifles, according to the Court have to be turned into the Niagara Police Dept. obtain a certificate that they had been received by the Police and then bail can be posted. However, confusion reigns. Niagara Police deny its their responsibility to accept the guns and Hamilton Police should accept this responsibility. Not say the Hamilton Police, however, if we can obtain obtain the gun registrations they will take possession of the guns. So, this morning my friend and I leave for the hour long drive to get the registrations only to be told we had to come back at 9am after being told to be there at 7am. After a pancake breakfast we headed to the Niagara Police station to see if any papers had been received from Hamilton Police requesting a certificate or request for the guns we were told by the Staff Sgt. there is nothing they can do and its NOT their responsibility. Thats the polite condensed version. We drove back to the detention Centre where my friend is incarcerated. At first they weren't gouing to give us the registration papers for the guns as they needed a full 24 hours to process a request. However, they gave us what we needed. When staff handed my friend her son's wallet we noticed $80 was missing. We then drove an hour back to Hamilton went to the Hamilton Police Station where after almost 2 hours later the paperwork was completed - almost. It was discovered that my friend's son had inquired about purchasing a .22 automatic revolver for the gun club he belongs to. A gun he has not purchased, does not possess but was registered by someone else in his name. Confused? Me too! After we finished with all the paper work the Police came and removed the guns from my friends house. By the by no one except a licensed gun owner can request to have Police come and remove guns from a home. Because my friend's son is feeling very low his mother and his new girlfriend are driving one hour (each way) to cheer him up. I am exhausted as is my friend as we both have been up since 5am its now 7pm. Please pray as tomorrow is the bail hearing. Rumour has it the x-girlfriend will NOT show up for the hearing she is trying to get revenage on him. What is disturbing is that we strongly suspect the x-girlfriend's friends is dending friends up to Hamilton to damage my friends car. Also my friend is now being denied access to her one year old grandson.
