Your Survival Manual for the Upcoming Mercury Retrograde

Dum-da-dum-dum. Drum roll please. Mercury retrograde is upon us!
Mercury turns retrograde on October 12, 2007, EDT one minute after midnight.
It turns direct on November 1, 2007, on all saints day at 6:59 pm, EST.

This Mercury episode occurs in the sign of Scorpio. It is a relatively short retro…only nineteen days (compared to a possible 24 days).This creates a plutonian (planetary) related experience with Mercury’s tricks. Here are a few areas where energy may backfire during this retro time.
Pluto relates to power, deep-earth based energy, finance for the masses, as in the stock market, big business, large corporations, the unconscious actions of the body and mind, deep based anger, transformation of any kind, the workings of psychology, unions, and reform just to mention a very few.
Do not expect this Mercury retro to be simple for Scorpio is complex no matter how you turn your head to look at it! This is doubly so for this retro as Mercury moves further back into the sign of Libra on the 23rd of October. It finishes its journey in the sign of Libra. This retro is mixed or dual in nature. We could call it bi-polar. It will have a dual nature. The nature is first, discovering what needs to be transformed and second, trying to bring conditions into balance.
We will certainly have our usual breakdowns of communication. There will also be failures of large mechanical items, i.e. automobiles and the electronic functions of those vehicles. In addition, any item having to do with communication…phone systems, cell phones, computers, printers, tape players, CD's, DVD's, sound systems, and any media producing apparatus. WOW!
If you have experience with the retrograde, I bet you can add a few items to the list. Note that you will probably experience at least one electrical item that suffers a crash. And of course, there are those simple things like:
Light bulbs blowing, electricity going out, lights flickering, music skipping, things dropping or jumping out of your hand. And then there is the possible dysfunction of the electrical systems of the dishwasher, washing machine, radio, recorder, blenders, and small appliances. Many times the items haven’t gone out, they are simply resting (imagine that) and if you can wait until Mercury turns direct, it may function again without any notation of earlier dysfunction.
The speedometer cable on the car I owned once upon a time would always make a rattling noise the entire time Mercury was retro. When it went direct, the noise would stop. It is too funny and yet, very real.
If you buy a major item during the retrograde, chances are it will turn out to be a “lemon” or it will never serve you the way you want to be served. I receive one or two phone calls in almost every retrograde with someone asking me, “Lyn, should I buy a car while Mercury is retrograde?” My answer? Read my lips! Cars are not exempt! It is not a good consideration in the retrograde!
My friend, Donna Dugo researches for the original production date of an automobile by its Vin number. She says, “this way, I don’t buy an automobile that was manufactured or went on the road during a retro.” SMART WOMAN!
If you take your car in for repair during the retro, the mechanic will probably scratch his head and say, "I think it is this or that part but I am not sure. I will keep looking.” Be skeptical of the replacing a half-dozen parts that really do not need replacing at all. Rent a car, borrow one and wait until the retro is over. The mechanic will probably find the problem first go around.
The art of human communication never runs smooth while Mercury is retrograde. It seems that the reasoning mind simply goes into an altered state of thinking, meaning “ON HOLD.” Sometimes goes off in any kind of direction that is not a normal direction. Count how many people you see racing backwards in their cars. Why? They are not sure. They could have turned around just as well, but the backwards (retro) thought is what occurred to them.
.In the case of communicating with our mates or those closest to us, the retrograde is an authentic challenge.
You’ll hear: You never told me that.
I didn’t hear you.
You said what?
No, you didn’t.
You said something entirely different.
And the “off-beat” goes on. The people closest to us are the ones we take most for granted. When mercury is retrograde it seems that we just tune them out. We hear the sound of their voice, but we aren’t really listening. (That is because the brain is on hold, remember?). This causes great havoc in close relationships. Take special care to bring your mind off of hold while your mate is speaking. Make it your business to listen with all of your senses plus your heart, and including your seventh sense. This could save a great deal of heartache, heartbreak, and possible break-up.
Arguments conducted during a retrograde simply become psychobabble. They don’t make any sense. Putting necessary debates on hold until after the first of November is a very smart action. And if you really want it to be effective wait until after the 9th of November (at the new moon). One advantage of this delay is that you will discover something after the retrograde that gives you more insight to the topic that needs to be debated. (Yes, dear attorney, this means you too. After all, you are the expert at stall).
One of the great clues for successful relating in this particular retro is DO NOT dig up the things that were hurtful in the past. That is a Scorpio thing. Start right here; where you are now. Reminisce and recall but do not project those energies on to others. This is your life. Use the past to rework today and think of the future but take full ownership of both actions.
The art of giving or receiving instructions should be: repeat the action a couple to times. In other words, you repeat the instructions you are giving or write them down then re-read what you have written. Or have the other person repeat what they are saying to you or write it down. You will probably find a step has been skipped. In addition, place the directions in a place easy to remember
Here is your Survival manual:
Mercury retro always creates a repeating action. The Re-Words are common. Some re-words that you will notice during this time are:
Repeat – The action you are making during the RX period you will probably repeat again during the period or later.
Repair – The need for repair will arise. If possible, put if off until Mercury turns direct (November 1, 07).
Reverse - You will be amazed at how many times you change your mind or reverse your thinking during this time. Watch out for that racecar driver that is driving in reverse down the emergency lane on the freeway. Yikes!
Recall - Your mind will wonder back. You will think of people from the past or you will encounter someone from the past. If old lovers show up, don’t bet that it will stick. Believe me... it is just for a “review.” (And if it does last, I want to be the first to know about it. E-mail me and let me know). And you know what, I wouldn’t start a new romance during this period either. November, my dear; November.
Review - If you are reading instructions, you may find it necessary to review repeatedly because they simply don’t make sense. Sometimes the publisher has actually left out a step. It happens!
Regroup - In corporations, it is a common experience during the Rx to hear the boss say, ‘Alright, we are going to rework this thing and get it right.’ Later when the period is over, they go back to the old way doing things. It is a laugh a minute. Stand back and watch the comedy.
Reboot and Revise - The computer world is a definite place to watch the comedy. It is common for one to suddenly, without fore thought, decide to revise their system during the Rx. Oh! Mercy! That revised system may never function in the normal way. Oh, please! Do wait until the period is over. However, it is fine to do your shopping for the new components during the Rx. When you do go to purchase your parts in November, you will find a better deals and buys.
Return - Now here is a good one. You’ll find that this period is a popular time for family or class reunions. Should you stay are home? Absolutely not! You go because this is a review that you don’t want to miss. But funny thing is that in spite of the fact that you tell these people ‘lets stay in touch’ it will become lip service and you won’t live up to your suggestion.
Rebirth – Often one will go back into the past and bring up old creative projects to work with during this time frame. Sometimes it sticks and sometimes it doesn’t. Only you will be able to activate the discipline to keep it going once the retrograde period is over.
Recover - You can bet that you will dig into your files, boxes or storage to recover something that you need…you can also bet it won’t be an easy find. It is totally likely that you will be looking for a legal document. While it is possible that you may not find what you are looking for, you may find something that you would like to put back in to use. Fun!
Re-examine – Well, just about everything. Smile.
Reduction – Over the years, I have been amazed at how many times a company or person decides to eliminate a job or to leave a job during the retrograde. It is my experience that a job changed during this period is 95% of the time regretted. Can you wait until the period is over, dear heart?
And so it is. Three times a year we live this cosmic “going to teach your patience routine”. All and all when this retrograde period is over (November 1st, 07) you may “Re alize” this simple truth: The flow of the universe is very, very interesting and it is going to have its way with us.
