Paths to the ceiling?

I could have sworn it was me, but when I looked to see
I was gone.
What lies behind the hedges that mask the unknown?
What lurks in the backs of our minds?
What sort of person do you see in the mirror?
And tell me, are you one of a kind?
I am a moth, forever flying into the flame
And I am a slave, forever trying to break the chains.
When I scream in the night, in the back of my mind
It falls on only deaf ears.
Creeping slow flow of blood to the brain
Carrying poisons that help to keep me sane.
I have no understanding of why I am here,
I guess I'm serving my time in hell.
