About 2 months ago, I called Michigan State University's ticket office to get a line on available tickets. as in if they have any, which games, etc. here is the converstaion:
Ticket office hello
Me "Hi, do you have any football tickets available for the upcoming season?"
ticket Office: "Do you give to the University?"
Me: "HUH?"
Ticket Office: "Do You contribute to the University?"
Me: "What does whether I give to the university or not have to do with ticket availability?"
Ticket Office: "Well you can't get tickets Unless you give to the university"
Me: "Oh, in that case I am safe. We give to the University everytime we pay our taxes."
Ticket Office: "Taxes don't count as donating to the university."
Me: "Perhaps in your opinion." I hung up After covering my mouth with duct tape.
What is the other side of this? The statement by this ticket office employee range from slightly questionable to outright moronic. I was so confused by this silly conversation that I did some research, not too much as I didn't really have the time but I did find out that 20,000 tickets are for John Q. Public without a donation. The other 40,000+ MUST donate
Now where I am coming from here..............what has happened to college football? It is all about money!~ If I were to take this to an attorney, (and if there is one out there I sure would like your advice) I think he would tell me that a state supported institution can NOT do what Michigan State has done. But at the same time it seems so darn logical to me that they can NOT ask for donations.............that I would not be surprised if they can.
Shortly after that one of Matt's customers had given him free tickets to the local Minor League (Cubs farm team) game so he invited me and Terry to join him and Shelli. I was siting next to some man who was talking about this very thing and he told me he has been to most every Michigan State game but 2 years ago he sold his season tickets and now on a fixed income, he can not afford to give to the school and also buy a ticket that is much inflated.
What about your school? Has this donation thing rippled onto your school? Michigan State is sold out for the season. these ppl gave money then they bought a ticket. Is this what these schools are doing that do not have club seating? Or are they going to club seating? I know there is an expansion that is going to happen out there. It makes me sick!
Poor ME:) I say I am boycotting but the truth is I cannot afford a ticket and what goes along with it. those 20,000 were gone in less than 15 minutes.
And the parking! That is 25 bucks. All of this BEFORE a tailgate! I would be broke for a month of Sundays! lyn:)
