The Steelers today signed Jared Retkofsky as their new long-snapper and placed Greg Warren on injured reserve after surgery to repair a torn ACL in his knee that was injured Sunday.
Retkofsky signed with the Steelers as an undrafted rookie from TCU this year but was released before training camp. He will wear No. 61.
The Steelers also signed punter Ricky Schmitt to their practice squad. Veteran punter Mitch Berger has a hamstring injury. Coach Mike Tomlin said today that Berger should be OK to punt Monday night against the Redskins.
Also, free safety Ryan Clark, who suffered a dislocated shoulder against the New York Giants, is not expected to play against the Washington Redskins. However, it is not known how long he will be sidelined with the injury.
Warren was knocked out for the season when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee against the Giants.
Schmitt, a left-footed punter, worked out for the team the week of the Sept. 14 game in Cleveland. After playing at Shepherd University, a Division II school near Washington, D.C., he signed with the Arizona Cardinals as a rookie free agent in 2007 and was waived at the end of training camp.
He was signed by the San Francisco 49ers this season and again was waived at the end of training camp.
