~~ Baptized into Death ~~ Dec. 3, 2005 ~~ By: Jo Smith ~~
I made a start on this message a couple of months ago and then stopped writing on it. Then when I attempted to finish this, the disk I was using would not open. So I am having to start over. I do not remember the thoughts I had at that time, but I pray God will bring this message back to me and let it be what He wants to be taught on this subject. May God bless this and bring forth fruit from it.
I have already written several messages on this subject of Baptism, but this is a total different revelation on baptism. I truly have never heard a message on this particular purpose of baptism.
Rom 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 6:2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
Ro 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Ro 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Ro 6:5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
Ro 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
Ro 6:7 For he that is dead is freed from sin. 6:8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: Ro 6:9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
Ro 6:10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
Ro 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. 6:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
Ro 6:13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
Ro 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
Ro 6:15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
Ro 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? Ro 6:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Ro 6:18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
This is a very important passage of Scripture, which I am afraid has been totally overlooked by most preachers and church folks. Let’s examine this a verse at a time. The importance and necessity of baptism as a vital part of our salvation has been lost to the people of today. Those who claim that all one must do to find salvation is to just ‘believe?have closed out most of the Scripture in favor of this false hope of never having to obey the Word of God. We will find in this message that baptism is absolutely NECESSARY for salvation.
Most people think that because we are justified by faith and the blood of Jesus, that this does away with the necessity of baptism. But this is just not the case. We must learn to go by all of the Word, not just a few select verses. All of the Word is God’s Word, so it takes it all to find the complete truth. It is not all listed in the very same spot, for that would be impossible to tell it all in one single verse. Anytime the Word of God is used or spoken or called over a thing or person, that causes the Holy Power of God to be there administering the power for healing, salvation, cleansing, justification or any other need we have. So when one is baptized and the word of God is spoken there, as is commanded by the Apostles, then this causes the act of Baptism to bring about the part of salvation which God ordained it to do . The Word of God spoken over the baptism act causes the water to become Holy and powerful, just as the presence of God caused the ground upon which Moses stood to be Holy Ground. (Be not children in understanding.)
Jesus said he that believeth AND is BAPTIZED shall be saved. Why deny part of the Scripture just because another part did not state it all? None of the Scripture has it all, and that is why we must study and place it together with the other verses to see the truth. Even in the gospel accounts of the life of Jesus, not one of the gospels contains the full account of any happening in his life. You must read the other three gospels books to see the full story. So it is with all the Scripture. So to see the full plan of salvation, one must read all the Scripture which pertains to this. You cannot lock down on one verse, saying all that is necessary to salvation is to just believe. This causes you to come up short for you did not obey the full Word.
In Romans 6:2, Paul asked, how shall we, that are DEAD to sin, live any longer in sin. Now we know that most churches teach that we can never be free from sinning. Is this true? This very chapter proves this is false and deception from Satan. Now how did one become DEAD to sin? Did believing cause him to be dead to sin? No. The devil believes and trembles, but he is full of sin.
Ro 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
If you have been baptized into Jesus Christ then you were baptized into His DEATH. How were you baptized into Jesus? By one Spirit are we baptized into one body. Now this spiritual baptism has two parts. It is not complete until both parts have been obeyed. How do I know? Listen to Peter.
Ac 10:44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
Ac 10:46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, Ac 10:47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? Ac 10:48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
Now see that these Gentiles had already received the Holy Ghost Baptism, for they had heard them speak in tongues. But did Peter allow this to be all they did? NO. He then COMMANDED them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. See then that Peter understood that they had to have both the Holy Ghost and the water baptism for it to be a complete work of God. He had called this a baptism of water. So in order to be baptized into Jesus Christ, one absolutely must be both water baptized in the Name of the Lord and be filled with the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Both these acts places one into the body of Christ. This is the method used to baptize one into Jesus Christ. It is not complete without both baptisms, for they make up the one Baptism into Christ.
Now when this baptism is accomplished, he said that we were baptized into His death. Ro 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death:
See then that we were baptized into his death and not only that but BURIED with him. When one is baptized they are actually buried with Jesus into his death. Most people say that it is only a ‘picture?or figure of his death and resurrection as we go down into the water and come back up out of the water. But I can assure you, it is MUCH more than that. Something very spiritual takes place right here. Too much carnality has replaced all the true spiritual truths in the Word, leading souls into darkness and destruction.
We actually DIED there with Jesus. We were actually placed into the same spiritual place that Jesus went into. Jesus had to die daily to his outer man, or his natural mind and desires. He had to keep that body under subjection to God at all times. He was ‘dead?to his outer man, and lived in the inner man, the Holy Ghost. Now this Holy Ghost inner man was not the mind of Jesus or his natural self. It was the Spirit of God living in Jesus. It was his spiritual Christ or manchild. Jesus took it to the ultimate death when he gave his life on that cross. It was complete there and He would never again have that carnal, natural outer body to contend with. When he came out of that grave, He had a spiritual, glorified body in the image of the Eternal God. He that is DEAD is freed from sin.
So when we are baptized we are spiritually killing our outer man and bringing it into subjection to God. We are placed as ONE with Jesus in his death. We are buried into his death. We go into that grave there with him. It is in the Spirit. Then we come up out of that water to walk in NEWNESS of LIFE. This is the likeness of His resurrection. If any man be in Christ (placed there by baptism) he is a NEW creature. He now lives a new life of Holiness by the power of Christ inside him. Instead of actually having to die physically, as Jesus did to accomplish salvation, we only go into his death by this baptism. It is taken in the Spirit as if we did die with him on that cross and go into his grave. You MUST die to self, you MUST be raised into newness of life, if you ever expect to have eternal life.
Since Jesus took our place as our substitute, then we are only required to go be baptized in His Name, showing that we accepted our place in his death and his grave. If you do NOT obey this COMMAND to be water baptized in his Name, then you are not going to be placed into his death and grave. Thus your sins will remain upon you. The only method of having them removed is to obey this command to be baptized in His Name so that you can be placed into his death and grave. Else you still have your sins on you. If you refuse to DIE with him, then you will not LIVE with him. FOR--
Ro 6:5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
See that? IF we were planted TOGETHER (with Jesus) in the likeness of his DEATH, we shall be in the likeness of his resurrection. So, if you refuse to be planted in the likeness of his death, you will NOT be in the likeness of his resurrection either. See then that it is NECESSARY to be baptized in his Name. Else you did not die with him so you cannot live with him. So now what exactly is the true purpose for this baptism?
Ro 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. Ro 6:7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
See then that it is for the purpose of crucifying your old man, or the outer nature or sinful self, just as Jesus was crucified. If you do not mortify (kill) the deeds of the old man or the outer man, then you will not live with him. You cannot go into eternal life full of sins. So why do we crucify this old man through this baptism? That the body of SIN might be destroyed, so that we shall not serve sin any longer. For he that is DEAD is freed from sin. See when you fulfill this Word and obey it, then God gives you a new inner man who is Holy and clean. So then if you refuse to be baptized in His Name, being buried into his death, then you will not be able to mortify the deeds of the outer man. If you attempt to do this of your own accord, without being baptized into Christ, then you are saying you can save your own self. But you cannot do that. You cannot live without your sins unless you obey this and receive that new inner self. That is precisely WHY almost all churches say you cannot ever be without your sins. They do NOT receive the correct baptism which washes away their sins and gives them the newness of life which this is speaking of. The very people who claim they can never quit sinning are also the ones who refuse baptism in His Name. Then this is why they never experience living a Godly and Holy life, free from their sins, they never died with Jesus and was buried with Jesus and therefore they were never resurrected with Jesus inside them. They also believe that baptism is not necessary to salvation and that it is not even necessary to be baptized. So they are in full rebellion and disobedience to God, so their sins remain. This is the only method mentioned in Scripture for the REMISSION or removal of sins. So the ‘believer?goes right on in their sinful life. They did not die with him, they were not buried with him, so their sinful, old man is still ALIVE. They did not crucify or mortify him. So he lives......on in sin.
Read it again:
Ro 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. Ro 6:7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
Our old man is crucified with him, that the body of SIN might be destroyed, that henceforth (from now on) we should not serve SIN. He that is dead is FREED from sin. Freed from sin means that God removed his sin from him or remitted them. He was set free from his sin. He is now clean and Holy. He has been raised in newness of LIFE. This LIFE is of God. Glory!
Ro 6:10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. Ro 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Jesus only died once unto sin. Once was enough. Now death and sin have no more dominion over him. Now the only way our sins can be removed from us is to die also. But since he died for us, then we must die with him. The only means of doing this is to be baptized in water in His Name. So don’t you see how important this is? It is totally necessary if you want your sins remitted, you must die with him. You must be spiritually transported into his death and resurrection.
Ro 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Ro 6:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
Like as Jesus was dead unto sin, we must reckon ourselves to be the same. We must be alive unto God through Jesus. This is the only way to let not sin reign in your mortal body. We must not obey it in the lusts thereof if we wish to have eternal life with him. So we must be placed into his death and grave to be raised with him. Isn’t it beautiful!
