Looks like you can choose Joseph, the son of Heli, as Luke proposes or Joseph, the son of Jacob as Matthew supposes

Joe, many times in the Word some names are called different things because of the switch in the language they used.
 
In this case, Matthew is giving a spiritual linage.  It only starts with Abraham.  It contains the men who were the 'spiritual' progenitor of the next generation.  They 'beget' the next one by bringing them into serving God.
 
Luke gives the natural linage, starting with Adam.  But Abraham is called the Father of the righteous, so Matt. is only giving the spiritual line of the righteous.  It ends with us, the 42nd Generation of Christ.  Jesus is the 41st generation.
 
Only a spiritual mind can receive the real truth of the Word of God.  To the carnal mind it is foolishness, for he is blind.
 
Now can you see?  Very few can 'see' true spiritual things, so they wrest the Scriptures to their own destruction.
