Heb 12:1 - Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us

Wondering about this? what is the sin that easily beset us?

asking, or telling?  Please ...do tell!

.....and while you are at it...what is the weights?  What does  'beset' us mean?

My, my.  such thought provoking from one little verse, which we all took for granted!

What do you think?  I am anxious to see the answer.

weight ?- I think this is a heavy burden.

now if that is so,then I think the sin is law.

Paul said in Acts 15

24 Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment: 25 It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, 26 Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who shall also tell you the same things by mouth. F28 28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things; 29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.

Ro 3:20 - Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Yes, that sin is the law.  Now I know others will think the law is not sin.... but yes.  It is doing despite to the spirit of Grace and the blood of Jesus Christ ,  to say we now need to go by that law.

That was made abundantly clear by all of the Apostles.  Peter certainly nailed it down by calling it a bondage which  was too hard for any of the, past or present.  It was the main trouble to that early church.  Paul said they were subverting their souls to tell them they need to keep the law.  Peter also said this.
So that proves it is the BESETTING SIN.

We certainly see that it was besetting that early church.  We today, see it even more.  We now see old jewish stuff set way up above Grace, worship in spirit and in truth, without the works of the law.

So ,  this besetting sin is trying to take or tell Christians that they must go back and keep the law of Moses, either to be saved, or to now have righteousness.

Never knew this before.  Thanks for this study.

The 'weights' were:  better keep that sabbath or be killed....
better not pick up a stick on saturday.

better tithe.
better not get that ox out of that ditch....etc. etc.
