The Minister for Defence, the Hon Joel Fitzgibbon MP, and the Federal Member for Blair, Shayne Neumann MP, announced today that the $117.1 million facilities project to support the introduction of the new F/A-18F Super Hornet has received Parliamentary approval.

The Australian Super Hornet Facilities Project will deliver the facilities and infrastructure to support No 82 Wing’s operations at RAAF Base Amberley for at least 10 years from 2010.

Construction is planned to start in early 2009 on the facilities project to support the 24 new jets.

The Super Hornet will allow Australia to implement a planned withdrawal of the F-111,?Mr Fitzgibbon said.

The Super Hornet’s advanced, networked weapons system will give Australia unprecedented air combat capability to meet the demands of the modern battlespace across the spectrum of air defence, strategic land attack and maritime strike.

The new facilities are essential to support the fundamental shift in communications, security and maintenance requirements for the new aircraft and its weapons system.

This project will inject cash into the local economy by creating jobs for tradespeople and labourers, Mr Neumann said.

What is RSS?

RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication". It is a way to easily disseminate news items, update notices, and content to a large number of people. RSS is then used by software to aggregate and present the content to you in a organised structure.

Why use it?

Many people spend hours visiting their favourite websites every-day to gather the information they require for the day. The idea of an RSS feed is to somewhat reverse that, whereby the content comes to you. Rather than visiting 10 sites a day, just subscribe to their feeds, and check your feeder every-day and all of the new content published by that site will show up in your RSS reader in an organised easy to access manner.

How do I subscribe?

It is very easy to subscribe to an RSS feed. All you need is an RSS reader: Below is a list of RSS readers you can use.

Once you have have a reader and you see an icon like this RSS Icon on a website or in the address bar, all you need do is click on it and follow the instructions.

It's dead easy.

If you have any further questions about our RSS feeds, please do not hesitate to contact us.
