Freya (Worrywort) is not doing well. Her son Paul has sent an email and she has discontinued treatment for her cancer. I will post more later but please keep her in your prayers as it appears bad. I know most of us longtimers here have really loved getting to know her through the years. Rich |

Freya, You have been a very important part of our family since the old CBS days, circa 2001,2002. You have become part of the soul of our circle, and it has been a great pleasure having you as a dear friend. Many times you have been a voice of reason, whether it be issues here on this site, or personal issues that you have offered advice on. Nancy and myself appreciate all the help you have given us, and we are better people because of you. Thank you, for just being you, and know that your Gangsta family loves you. Until me meet again my friend, All our love, -Ken & Nancy, and the whole Gangsta family |

I am posting part of her sons letter. Hello Dear Friends and Family: Many of you know that Mom has been waging a courageous battle against cancer since about December after relocating here to Virginia in August. She is presently resting in bed and had asked me to forward a message to you about current events. After the full course of radiation and a round of chemotherapy the doctors reported that the advance of the cancer cells had not been impacted by the treatment. She has been hospitalized twice and suffered a host of side effects along the way. Mom has decided to discontinue any further treatments. She is now home with me and my sister - Marcy - has flown in from Boston to enjoy these precious hours together. More family members will be here soon! Many of her grandchildren have been here to visit (my children and her niece were already here in Virginia. AND, my father and his wife visited last weekend...as has been with Mom throughout our life, again she was the catalyst for a wonderful weekend of healing and memories and joy in the midst of sorrow....It was the first time in my life that I spent time with them together....conversing, laughing, reminiscing - with tenderness! Mom has been unable to get "online" in recent weeks and feels so badly that she has not kept up with so many of you. I specifically want to ask Ken and Nancy (Mom's very dear friends from Fantasy NASCAR) to pass on her love and sincere thanks for the friendships she has enjoyed so much over these past years. I was so specially touched to see the League Message Board on her birthday when there were so many Birthday Greetings and comments. I came to know so many of you through her stories and anecdotes.....these Leagues were a lifeline to her and she truly loved so many of her friends there....and cared about each of you - carrying hopes and dreams for many of you, and reaching through the cyberwaves to touch you with her kindness. Ken...please pass this on to all the players....from Mom and from me! And, let me know if i can finish the season for her - in her honor..... The physicians have told us she may have only a few days - or weeks.....so we are treasuring every lucid moment...... With all of Freya's love - and mine! Paul Hedges

Paul, I'm so sad to hear the news of your Mom. Her wit and wisdom ( and thoughts of Chicago ) were one of the main reasons I became attached to this wonderful group. I even had the honor of chatting with her a few years back. She often boasted that I was her adopted grandson ( which I took as a terrific compliment ). She truly is one of a kind. My wife and I will keep her and your family in our prayers. Please pass along our messages to your Mom. David Abata ( aka The Iceman ) |

I haven't posted here at all in over a year...actually two I guess, but I came here because I am still a regular poster at CBS, and I was concerned because I hadn't heard from Freya in a while, and I feared the worse. Knowing that she still visited here, I wanted to contact OFB. Unfortunately my fears were correct. She was a wonderful lady, who I considered my friend. She encouraged me to return here...that I was letting my emotion get the best of me. As I stated before, I do have incredible memories of posting here....so maybe Freya steered me here for a reason..... 'til later, Dan |
