Guide Review - Live Recordings from the Louisiana Hayride - George Jones

George Jones is oft described as the finest country music singer alive. Some may dispute that; others believe it without question. But how he got there these early recordings, starting with a June 1956 appearance, show how he went from Texas hillbilly singer to the King of Country. These recordings are a rare treat for any country music fan, listening to George's style evolve from that early '56 appearance to a performance of "Walk Through This World With Me" in February 1969.

The Louisiana Hayride, broadcasting on Shreveport's KWKH, once ran a sharp rival tothe Grand Ole Opry in popularity. Jones was a regular cast member from December '55 through August '56 (when he left to join the Opry cast), and came back frequently to perform. As the liner notes state, "Jones' vocal performances are the gold standard by which country music singers are judged." The truth of that can be traced through these songs, as George's unique style developed around his amazing voice.

It's hard to find better than George Jones when you're looking for real country music. These recordings may be rustic, but they're more than worth the time. These collections are a grand gift to country fans. Other Louisiana Hayride collections are in the works, as well; but a great place to start is here with true country music royalty.

I think it's great that the Hayride is releasing these treasures........... George Jones is one of my all time favorites, and for all intent and purposes.........he is country music!!!  My only wish, concerning the Hayride releasing things.......... is that they'd also release the performances of lesser known artists...................

Folks like Jeanette Hicks, Margie Singleton, and others also recorded at the Hayride.  I wish they'd release the live performances of all the artists who graced that stage.  Maybe one day they will.

Enjoyed the post Pat.................
