You may have heard rumors that MSN Groups will in closing, I’d like to respond to those here so that our most active users have the information you need to manage your groups effectively. It is true that we are planning to close the MSN Groups service on February 21, 2009 and will offer you the opportunity to move your group to our new partner service, Multiply. We understand the importance of keeping your group together, so we partnered with Multiply to create a migration process that moves your group to their service to preserve your online community and its history.

The migration method that Multiply has built for you is still in the beta stage, we plan to open it next week. Once the service is ready we’ll be sending all of our users an email and will post notices within the MSN Groups site with more information, including instructions for beginning the migration process. In the meantime I encourage you to visit http://Multiply.com to get to know the service and see some of the thousands of groups they host already.

The natural question to ask in this situation is why we are closing MSN Groups. It is our goal to provide our customers with the most current and user friendly technology available today. We made the difficult decision to close the MSN Groups service as part of an overall investment in updating and re-aligning our online services with Windows Live. In the long term we believe that closing the service is the best way to continue to offer innovative, best of breed services that help you stay in touch with the people you care about. It’s very important to us that you keep the data you created using MSN Groups and that is why we have partnered with Multiply, so you can keep your group going into the future despite the closure of MSN Groups.

Between today and February 21, 2009 the MSN Groups service will remain the same as it is now. We will remove the option to add more storage to your group but other features will remain until the service is shut down and you can use it the same way you do today until the date of closure. Watch the site and your email inbox over the next week as we will post updated information there, including a more detailed outline of your options and next steps.

Well f it goes to multiply then no more pages etc. as we have in group now, just a blog type of place like Facebook...I have a feeling Windows Live may have what we need to be a real group , but everyone'll just have to just sit back and wait till November, to see what will be offered...it's so sad really!!!

Ruby, you may want to contact Barb and see what they told her. I just read an anouncment on her group from that said this was a rumor that got started like one about a year ago and although they are making some MSN changes they are NOT closing any of the groups but I can't recall off hand just how it was put. so DON'T PANIC ANYONE AND RUN OFF AND JOIN ANOTHER PLACE YET....wait until our "fearless leaders" tell us to panic. I for one did panic at first but after reading the post on Barb's it calmed me down. ha ha

Oh Jessie, thanks for the info. I've been so upset this morning and trying to get another one up and running! On Multiply. Thats terrible if this is just a rumour. It's causing a lot of upset on the groups.

Well here I go again Ruby, sorry but I guess it IS true. Barb posted a reply from MSN on her site that they said it is going to take place in Fed. of 2009 and said they are going to help move MSN groups over to that new site hopefully smooth and problem free.

Who know's maybe we'll like it as well. Look at the positive side.

Yes Jessie it is true. I have had that Multiply for 3 years but never used or checked it, so hopefuly it will go smooth and our members can come and join us there. It will be a shame to lose touch after all the years and time spent here. How many members will be willing to try it. Lets know.

I read this below was also in one of my other groups...Not to panic or change your group location yet....Wait and see before you do anything...just collect your members emails...For time being. But we must carry on and enjoy it as we do now....Enough worrying...it's taking the fun out of groups right now...Enjoy our groups for today...Hugs Always Charlie

Please do NOT move your groups over to Multiply!! Don't go to their site and put in your email and password!! You don't want to share that information with anyone!! We need to wait for word from MSN!! If MSN gets ready for us to move they will let us know!! Please do consider backing up your groups on another site, everyone needs to do this anyway. But let's not rush into anything. MSN will let us know b4 they close groups IF they are going to close them. I can't stress enough, DO NOT put your email addy and password into that site!! If you already have, change your password immedately!! I will let you know when I get more info from MSN until then the only thing you need to do is create a group on a diffrent server. There are other places that have groups such as yahoo, google, world groups, yuku etc. Have your members join there so you can keep in touch with them should you loose your group for any reason. If MSN wants us to move our groups they will let us know, PLEASE wait for word from them!!
