What do you think? Is GH bringing back rock and real music to the kids of today?

Hmmm... I dunno.  I've got two kids who play guitar/bass for real, and all three love music.  We've had GH since last Christmas and I gotta say, they were interested in playing it for about the first two weeks.  After that.... ptttph!  Waste of money here!

I know its a phenomena in most places.  Obviously, my children are weird.  LOL

I gotta say yes. We have Rock Band and my kids are hooked on it. I put the skill level on expert and scored near perfect on "Won't Get Fooled Again". Vocals only of course. Now I have them forming a Kid band with all my equipment I use for practice with my band.

I think this is waaaaay cool because it combines hand eye coordination with a lesson on what is truly the coolest thing to come from either of our generations....Rock and Roll. Now I am the Dean at Moe's "School of Rock" Fucking Awsome.....

now this is just my opinion--but I hate that game --

nobody is a guitar hero without a real guitar and a lot of practice--lol

any one who thinks he or she "rocks" because they can get a high score on guitar dweeb hero--doesn’t know the meaning of the word--lol

Its like thinking you’re a stud because you cam-a-lamma-ding-dong on line--but don’t ever pull any tail in real life---lmao

Yes, Wallie... I kinda think that's why my kids don't think too much of the game, because they've gotten pretty good at playing guitar (Brookie) and Braden on bass... and Brenny is VERY interested in picking up the drums.  LOL... Look for the FluffyTrio to hit the charts in about 10 more years.  You can say "you knew them when."

I wouldn't say it's "bringing it back" per se, since most of the kids that are buying it are already familiar with some/all of the songs.
I do think that it is helping to reintroduce some of these songs.

That been said, I own it.
It is the only video game (other than tetris) that I have ever bought, and it was worth every penny.
I know how to play guitar in "real life" and I find guitar hero to be fairly true to playing a real guitar, as true as a video game CAN be.
I think that partially as result of this game, guitars are making a come-back.
Most of the guys that I know that started off playing guitar hero are now learning to play guitar, and in almost every video game store in town just around the corner from the game guitar hero are guitars and lesson books.

Everybody's gotta start somewhere right? Why not with a video game?

Theres a few songs on GH that some of the 'youth' of today would not be familiar with and i have heard many stories of kids buying it maybe cos of one song they like or know on it and they like the idea of rocking out in front of friends (or on their own for that matter) but have discovered alot of really cool tracks from rock bands of the 80s. There does seem to be a nostalgia trip at the moment with bands from the 80s and 70s touring again and making new albums. I think its all good. The music from the 80s was some of the hottest shit around!!

One thing that helped 80's rock be what it is/was was the technical revolution that happened with stage lighting and sound from that era. The music was hard drivin' but the massive equipment and production that started going into Rock shows was unbelievable. Lets not forget MTV too.

For example.....Van Halen!!!!

I have tried numerous times over the past several years to play guitar.  My small  hands and short fingers have a hard time wrapping around the neck and only touching the correct strings.  I suck!!  BUT, I can play Sweet Home Alabama on Guitar Hero, as well as a mean Angus on air guitar!  So, therefore, I ROCK!!

I think ANYTHING that has to do with music is awesome!!!

Anything that motivates the interest in music is so wonderful.  Even for toddlers they have Fisher Price toys out there that are musical.  It's a great thing!!

I have played Guitar Hero and I loved it.  I know it's not the same as learning on a real guitar, but so what.  It's fun.  And it sparks the interest for the love of music.

We all love it here! With the exception of Jimi ( Paul ) of course... it seems that the folks who actually PLAY INSTRUMENTS can't stand the game.  But it really gives me and my son something to interact with... and if a parent can still laugh with the 15 yr old son and feel like you have something in common for even 30 minutes... well, to me the game is priceless.

Guitar Hero is a great series of games. I play a severely limited amount of "real" guitar because I have almost no speed in my hands lol. I'm not especially good at Guitar Hero either, but in an age where people know how to get music for cheap online (even free), Guitar Hero has to be considered one of the biggest things music has going for it at the moment. Besides, as mentioned before, it can bring families together and is a big hit at parties lol.

I'm in favor :)

I don't know..I like Pat Benatar...and not only because I've always been told I resemble her ...but isn't there another "easy" song guitar hero can offer? I've only watched people play this 3 or 4 times and they always play that song. I don't know about saving rock n roll....but perhaps its introducing rock to another generation.
