Actually, my mother-in-law is one of 17 children so this doesn't sound terribly unusual to me!  But.... C'MON!!  Who in their right mind want 18 freakin' children!!

A great quote from Groucho Marx was always the joke directed at my grandfather-in-law.....

"I like my cigar, but I take it out once in awhile."  That Groucho Marx quote sure fits here too!

Duggar Family Welcomes 18th (!) Child

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar of Tontitown, Ark., had their eighteenth child Thursday ?Jordyn-Grace Makiya, who joins the rest of her J-named siblings.

Jordyn-Grace was born via C-section at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers, weeks before her due date of Jan. 1. She weighed in at 7 lbs, 3 oz and was 20 inches long.

"Mother and baby are resting and doing well," says a rep for the Duggar family, whose crowded house is featured on the TLC network show 17 Kids & Counting.

The newest Duggar has a lot of names to keep straight.

The other kids ?who range in age from 20 years to 17 months ?are Joshua (who married Anna Keller in September and says he is looking forward to the "blessing of children" of his own), twins John-David and Jana, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joseph, Josiah, Joy-Anna, twins Jeremiah and Jedidiah, Jason, James, Justin, Jackson, Johannah and Jennifer.

Their parents married when Michelle was 17 and Jim Bob was 19. (Her mother had to officially sign permission.) After birth-control pills were blamed for a miscarriage, the couple decided to throw them out. They've had a new baby approximately every 18 months since.

"What really works for me is swaddling a baby and snuggling up," Michelle told PEOPLE in an interview last year. "I love that time of just bonding and nursing a little baby. And, with a new baby, I realize that I don't need as much sleep as I used to think I did. You learn. This time goes by so quickly. I look at my older children and wonder where the time went."

I personally don't agree with having that many children....but that is my opinion...which generally I don't give....

My best friend back in CT help tutor's a woman's child (one of the 13th/14th) that is working on having her 13th or 14th kid right now because they are ALL home schooled....I just don't see the logic/financial aspect of producing that many children in todays society.  If financially they could afford it, I guess, but with this family I know they can't & they go for outside help but because of their "religion" DON'T use protection...

But anyways....I rattled on...moreso than usual....I can go on a soapbox.....

In the "old days" people had more children. My mother had six siblings. People can't afford that now. Which brings me to the belief that those that have multiple births, and in the case of this family, with 18 children, live off of the income they get from the TV SHOWS they have.

I've watched the Duggar Family show and watched as they shopped for groceries. I can't even imagine having that many children. (God blessed me with one...I was not able to have any more after Sara). But these people have a bedroom-sized pantry. I'm lucky if I can find enough food to make one meal a day. I'm a single mom, living in Louisiana, trying to survive on a TEACHER income!!! And I make too much money to get food stamps!!!! This is ridiculous! How can they survive? What is this guy? An architect? I forget. Still...how the hell can he support 18 kids?

There's something wrong in this government if a couple with a stay at home mom can support 18 kids but a single mom with ONE child can't get food stamps!
