I just got a text from a friend saying 'goodbye'. She said she was killing herself, had taken so and so pills and slit her wrists and it said that she "loves" me, etc.

So naturally, I freak out. Suicide and me have gotten quite well aquainted with each other in the last couple months, after 3 people I was close to killed themselves.

I called her freaking out. Her reaction?

"haha chill out dude, it was just a joke"

JUST A JOKE? JUST A f***ING JOKE? THAT'S NOT A JOKE. I am so angry right now I just want to hit something and then cry.

When did it become okay to pretend to kill yourself, pretend to OD or pretend to slit your wrists? When is that EVER okay? She's not the first to cry wolf, and I'm sure she wont be the last, but WHY?

Suicide or not, I lost a friend tonight.

It sounds like a cry for attention but im not sure what exactly she wants from you.   Does she have a crush on you or something? Are you that close or is she more of an acquaintance type friend? Its a heartless thing for her to do that to you especially since you have experienced friends or loved ones committing suicide.  I think you should ask her what her game is again and if all she can come up with is 'Oh its a joke...chillax' again, then its time to call it a day on the friendship.  I cant even imagine doing that to someone...suicide is never a joke, and for her to make you think she had taken pills and was going to end her life is hurtful and childish.

Thats just sick and wrong in so many ways. It is a very quick way to lose a friend, thats for sure. If she doesn't really need help...I'd tell her to call me when she grows up.
