Funny how I been thinking about this and how we deal with it. When I was in second grade I used to draw WW2 air battles on what seemed like 20"x 12 paper but maybe I was just small. I drew the axis vs USA and put the names of Hitler, Mussilini and Tojo on the enemy planes and of course the P-40 I flew had shark teeth and Lt. A.P. Taylor on the side. My mom would not let me take it to school when she saw it. She told me they were names she wasn't allowed to utter when she was a child during the war and no way I was going to bring that even though they were being shot down by the greatest fighter pilot ever. Back then there were hundreds of thousands of veterans still traumatized by the viciousness of war and I knew personally one who was "shell shocked" from war in Europe. Even now some of these guys won't forgive the soldiers they fought. When I see old warriors shake hands and shed tears of forgiveness it makes me weepy too. I think freedom should be respected, taught and tolerated. If it were me at the cake counter... and the kid was there... I would of put "Happy Birthday Adolf" sure... and the scowled at the parents. Its not the kids fault... happy birthday kid. |
