Spicy Beer Bread    3 cups flour  1-1/2 tsp. salt  3 tsp. baking powder  3 Tbs. sugar  1 tsp. oregano  1 tsp. basil  1 tsp. thyme  12 oz beer, at room temperature  1/2 cup parmesan cheese  FOR PREPARATION OF PAN, ONLY:  1 Tbs. shortening  3 Tbs. cornmeal  2 Tbs. soft butter/margarine 
  Heat oven to 325. In a large mixing bowl, combine the dry  ingredients, cheese and dried herbs; mix well. Stir in the beer. It  will produce a stiff batter. Grease a large loaf pan with the  shortening, sprinkle the bottom and sides with cornmeal. Turn batter  into pan and bake at 325 for about 1 hour. Brush baked loaf with  softened butter and sprinkle with additional cornmeal, if desired.  Turn out and cool on rack.
