You just finished dinner and are preparing to clean up and put away the leftovers, but what will become of those leftovers? Do you serve them for the next day to your less than enthusiastic family? Or worse, do they end up somehow pushed to the back of the fridge and left to spoil? How about saving some money by planning ahead and using those leftovers in creative ways that your family will love.
Lets say you prepare a meal of roasted pork and rice for Sunday dinner. Nobody is in the mood for leftovers the next day so the pork ends up in the back of the refrigerator. If yesterdays leftovers always end up this way then by the end of the week you have a lot of food that gets thrown away.
Cooking dinner without having a plan for the leftovers is like throwing money away on groceries, which is probably one of your biggest monthly expenses. Why not plan your meals in a way that you can get two different meals out of one?
For starters, chop up that leftover pork loin and set it aside. In a large skillet or wok, stir fry the leftover rice with a bag of frozen veggies (thawed so they don't get mushy), an egg and the leftover pork loin for a delicious pork fried rice. Add a few dashes of soy sauce and you have a delicious one dish meal for the family.
This is just one example. You could have done the same with leftover chicken, seafood or beef. Here is another example:
Take leftover hamburgers from yesterdays dinner and chop them up. The meat can now be combined with a jar of spaghetti sauce to make a quick pasta dinner. Since the meat is already cooked you just saved a lot of time. If you use your imagination you can come up with lots of meal ideas that will give your leftovers a whole new twist.
Planning ahead with your leftovers will save you both money and time. Just use your imagination and the possibilities are endless! No more boring leftovers and no more wasted food getting thrown out each week. You family will really enjoy the new creative ways you come up with to use leftovers.
