I said most of what can be siad when I typed the recipe. And although they are listed as Italian subs I use the basic recipe to make subs.
The nice thing about making them at home is that you can use the things that you lkike on them.
I have found that it is more evenly distubted of you put the Italian dressing in a bowl and use a pastry brish to brish the dressing onto the bun.
For other style subs you can use other dressings and sauces.
You can even add ingredients after baking the basic sandwich and getting the meat hot and cheese melted.
Things that I sometimes add afterwards is tomatoes, lettuce, onions and things along that line.
Subs are a lot like soup in the sense that you can individualize themn to your needs, supplies and family likes.
