HAMBURGER CREOLE
1 lb ground beef
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp margarine
1 small thinly sliced onion
1 cup sliced mushrooms
3/4 cup chopped celery
1/4 cup cubed green pepper
Pepper to taste
2 cans stewed tomatoes
1 tsp sugar
Mix half the salt and pepper with the ground beef. Shape into patties.
Melt margarine in saucepan and add patties. Brown patties on both sides
and remove from pan. DO NOT DRAIN FAT. Add onions, celery, green pepper
and mushrooms. Put lid on pan and simmer five minutes. Stir
occasionally. Add tomatoes, slat, and pepper and sugar. Bring to a boil,
add meat and reduce to low and simmer 15 minutes pushing
occasionally. Serve over macaroni noodles.
Variations: don't make patties just break up ground beef as it browns.
Add spices as desired like basil and oregano.
