Ingredients 1 lb. ground beef 1 jalapeno pepper, chopped 2 tsp. chopped onion 2 tsp. finely chopped fresh cilantro 1/8 tsp. salt 1/8 tsp. pepper 4 hamburger buns, split 4 romaine lettuce leaves 1 tomato, sliced 1 avocado, sliced 1 onion, thinly sliced Instructions Combine ground beef, jalapeno pepper, chopped onion, cilantro, salt and black pepper in large bowl, mixing lightly but thoroughly. Lightly shape into four 1/2-inch thick patties.
Place patties on grid over medium, ash-covered coals. Grill, uncovered, 11 to 13 minutes to medium (160°F) doneness, until not pink in center and juices show no pink color, turning occasionally.
Line bottom of each bun with lettuce leaf; top with burger, tomato, avocado and sliced onion. Close sandwiches.
Suggestions Cook's Tip: To prepare on gas grill, preheat grill according to manufacturer's directions for medium heat. Grill patties, covered, 7 to 8 minutes to medium (160°F) doneness, until not pink in center and juices show no pink color, turning occasionally.
