Today I was told NOT to use DTA on my time sheet. I am a network technician and I find myself being assigned design tickets as the first tech out. I complete the ticket without the help of a design tech. If I am doing work that is in a higher pay scale I should be getting compensated.

I am wondering if anyonehere is using this time code? Are there any special conditions that are needed to use the time code? I dont understand why my boss would even care, I get $4.75 a day when I get a design ticket. Its not like it will break the bank or anything.

I stand corrected and I apologize.  I believe then that in order to get that additional money you have to spend a greater percentage of your work day doing that work.  But then again, I could be wrong.  They keep moving the bar to fit their budget needs and to take away the experience factors when folks want to transfer to that position.

Follow this link, sign in with your CUID and AD password, select "Qwest Job Opportunities", then select "Qwest Job Briefs". It'll have all the titles we have including Montana's combo tech.

This particular site only works with Internet Explorer unfortunately.

bayen,

I found out today that a grievance was filed in SLC in 2005 on the DTA issue. The grievance was lost. Although the Union rejected this denial, the grievance was not pursued to the next step. Thats the bad news.....

The good news....

In the grievance there is the statement from the company, "It remains the Company's position that test and turn up of DSO and above circuits that does not involve the test center and/or delivery to the end user/customer is considered Wage Scale 2 work, and therefore, not eligible for daily differential for performing work of a higher wage scale."

I think the premis on this grievance was... Techs were performining section throws and taking DTA when there were T1s involved. If you read the company's opinion, I believe if you are working on a trouble ticket and work with the test center you can and should be using DTA. A trouble ticket is different from a section throw where you are swaping cable pairs like for like, Now if you are performing a section throw with a tester verifying circuits as you cut them that may be acceptible.

Do you know about the 10% differential between 7pm and 6am? There's a code for that too.

Use 30 mins DIFP from 7:00pm to 7:30PM and use DFO for any hours between 7:00PM and 6:00AM.

Example....if your shift is 10:00AM to 6:30PM and you worked 12HRS.....10:00AM-10:00PM:

0001200    12y
000800       R
000400      OTM (ALWAYS use OTM... NOT OT)
000030      DIFP (7pm-7:30PM)
000300      DFO (any OT from 7PM to 6AM)

Comments: NO LUNCH

I just found out recently that if you are one of the lucky few that works in an on call position and you are "called out" that you are allowed to take VRT from your house to your PRP and back again when your on call duties are done.

0300 co
0300 12y
0030 vrt this is if you live fifteen miles from your PRP
0475 dta
0001 aca8

He he he......some might dispute that "lucky" feeling! But yep...don't ever forget....callout is from the time you leave the spot where your shoes are until the time you get them back there. That could possibly be a longer distance than your house. Also....we need to get callout QJD exempt....not only due to travel time....but usually callout tickets are more difficult especially for cable and design. Rats again.....another complaint!!

Yes, when you carry the pager and they call you when you are in the middle of eating dinner at one of our fine restaurants, you must finish up, go home, change, then head to work.

And phoenixphoneman has it right: you are paid from the moment they call you to work because everything you do from that moment is moving you towards the job - you would not ordinarily have to leave the restaurant and all your lovely friends, run back home to change your clothes to go to work. The company must pay for all that time.

Sometimes, this period of time can be substantial and it does go against your QJD. This is a crime, really. They want you at their beck and call then penalize you! Interesting way to run a company.....

Since I was on pager duty for weeks at a time and had lots of those kind of non-productive hours on my timesheet, I managed to get the manager to take that into consideration when looking at QJD numbers. This helped for a while, but then he was telling me that upper management was giving the impression that they were going to clamp down on this.

I of course said I would not be willing to take pager duty anymore if they should pull that! (Not that I had any choice, but I wrote a letter saying that I was no longer a voluntary participant in their pager program, just to go on record).
