Eds money is not related to his performance. He doesn't need to do a good job to get his money. I think it's time to put Ed on a performance plan. Forget about progressive discipline, I am putting him straight on a Warning of Dismissal with a 3 day suspension.Let him try to grieve it. HEHE

Ed works 11 to 1, with an hour lunch. The most money, for the least amount of work, for as long as he can. When he goes to the restroom he ties a string around his ankle, then to his chair. Most of the time he finds his way back. Just like the CEO's before him he has stolen our money fair and square, it's in his contract. The employee benefits is a pot-o-gold, for him to dip into. Maybe one day he will be voted CLOWN OF THE YEAR.

Actually I think Ed was brought on to get Qwest ready to be sold or merge with another company. Hes getting the headcount as low as can be, as lean as he can get it (and as we all know - its past the point where its impacting customers - but heavens to betsy no manager is going to admit that to their higher ups - lets just cover it up), he got the Verizon deal (and you notice that neither company will disclose the financial details of the deal - why is that) and now you have the contracts that will further erode whatever strength the union had.

There probably wont be any deals announced until after both conventions and the contract is ratified. Probably later this year or early next year. Maybe Verizon. (and than there will be a further reduction in Qwest headcount as Verizon can do most of the work.)

The company was well aware of what their results would be and trumpeted them to the press with a little more than a week to go until contract expiration.  The company is playing the pity card in the press, providing reasons for not honoring the service of their retirees by continuing their healthcare, for not giving employees an honest increase in wages, at least comparable with the increase of COLA for the past 3 years.  I'm waiting for CWA's leadership and press releases to come through expounding the stories of hard work, sacrifice and potential life threatening actions of having retirees pay for their health insurance from their not so overly generous pensions and pillaged savings (thank you Joe!) accounts.  Qwest is getting lots of ink on these lousy results and they're pointing fingers at CWA members on the job with QJD and other stupid measurement programs.  It's the economy stupid!!  And you have to spend money in order to make money, and spend it where it will grow, like investing in plant, training and your people, so they in turn can provide the services that our customers once could count on from a Bell System telco.

So, while the public relations arm of CWA's District 7 organization gets their plan together I strongly suggest that we all start sending in our letters to the editors of our local newspapers.  Let them know what's at stake for all of us, active and retired, what's at stake for them as customers, what we want to do to continue providing quality service and why we can't, won't be able to.....  If you blog somewhere others can read it, let those fingers fly.  You attend Central Labor Council meetings, let others in your labor community know what's happening and how we'll need their help.  Ask now so they can be prepared.  The 16th is next Saturday folks.  While I sincerely hope that we continue to work past expiration without a contract just to keep the company in limbo and paying out the big bucks for those airline tickets, rental cars, meals and hotel rooms; we have to be ready at a moment's notice to hit the bricks.

Stay strong, stay united!!!

So do you think a letter from a former employee who left the company because she couldn't do her job correctly because she was being threaten with termination for being on the phone with a customer for longer than 5 minutes to fix a dead phone line, improper programming or just to calm a irrate customer, down would help... ?

I took an evspp because I felt that I was being pushed out by a team lead, whom I am glad to say was FIRED after I left for falsefying company documents.  I was told that I did my job too well and needed to let others do some of the work?! I thought we were supposed to provide 1 call resolution and not roll a truck unneccessarily. Not to mention, I recieved great feedback from some of you tech's out there ..I knew my job and I knew when it was a good ticket and when a customer just needed to unplug a phone or undo their call forwarding.

I used to work in Phoenix in the screening department. This company took over 17 years of my blood, sweat and tears and I had to leave to keep my sanity and my health because the higher ups lacked ethics.

Tell me where to write and these fingers will fly.

Guidelines for letters to the editors:

No more than 150-200 words.  Stick to one subject, one point.  Cause and effect.  Impact on the public good/welfare.  If you can relate it back to service and that this is a regulated industry that isn't living up to their 'contracts' with citizens, customers, investors and employees all the better.

Let those fingers fly!!!

No, it should be 6 weeks non-grievable like the techs on my crew got.  3 days wouldn't be in the spirit of service, come on everyone get in the loop.  WTF is up with "Get in the loop"?  Is that the best our advertising idiots can come up with.   I bet we are losing 8 percent of land lines because of the commercials alone.
