Hi everyone,
First I would like to thank you for your prayers and continued prayers for Seth.
It was the plan yesterday to see his Feeding specialist, OT Therapist, and Nutritionist. His Nutritionist was sick, but the other two came.
Seth has now given up the puree chicken and apples that he used to eat, he is down to only two different types of Gerber puree fruit and 3 different kinds of crackers. There is some positive stuff too....but lots of discouraging info at the same time.
Yesterday went well. The Feeding Specialist got him to eat while she was here....just his regular crackers. Seth has a hard time switching things....including games etc...he likes his rigidity. Which I guess is a problem. The behavioral specialist comes next Tuesday at 5pm. Seth's OT will be there too, as will Jason, thank God. Seth is not getting the nutrition that he needs, he is doing fine calorie and protein wise, but he is lacking in vitamins and other things. We decided to try to put a little bit of carnation instant breakfast into some milk, but have to put it in a new cup, not one that he is used to because we don't want to get him turned off to milk. I will also try to find a set of small alphabet cookie cutters and start cutting shapes out of food....see how that goes. (if you know where to get some, please let me know....not too big.)
We have decided to relax some on the food and let him go on that for now. Another big issue is Seth being able to transition from one thing to another. He likes his routine and if you mess with it and it is something that he doesn't want to do...he melts down. He has a hard time regrouping. He puts things in order, like the ABC and 123 puzzle and doesn't like it any other way. I guess that the behavioral specialist will be able to help with those kinds of things. And then we can use the tactics on food issues.
Today he had his speech therapist come. She keeps mentioning PDD, which is Pervasive Developmental Disorder...it is a strain of Autism. From what I can find, in the line up of things it is the next thing down from Autism. It is more like a group of disorders, rather than just ADD or ADHD or Autism etc..... I am not sure where I stand on labeling Seth, and I have to talk to Jason more on it, but his speech therapist keeps bringing it up. His OT had once mentioned Aspergers, which is another (less serious, I guess) strain of Autism. If he is labeled he will get more services....not sure how much more he can handle....he just wants to be a kid. I just want to be a mom....oh so much so.
I am not sure what to make of it all. I have really tried to put it into Gods hands, but I (like always) leave it at the Cross and then take it back again. I would ask you to pray for all of us in this situation.
The good news is this: Today I got the Carnation Instant Breakfast Vanilla mix.....and I got a different cup (it is a great Tonka cup with a hard hat as the top!!!) and I put 8oz of milk and 1tsp of the mix in it and he drank it!!! Praise God. The Feeding specialist says that giving him that will help with his vitamin troubles and that would be a good thing.
Also I got him to play with cheese today. I got a slice of cheese out and cut out the letters S E T H M O M....and just played out spelling things. It was cool cause you take and break the H (cause a slice of cheese is not thick) and you get an I and same thing with the E....break it, oh well turn it over and you get an F. He had fun, but would NOT put it in his mouth. He fed it to me....YUM! Cheese that your toddler has been playing with for a while!! But who knows, maybe one time he will actually eat it.
Thank you for listening (those of you who made it this far)
We do appreciate your prayers and will keep you posted!
In His Name,
Dawn
